Dylsm or children's Mucinex read on the label to see how much to give. I have used both and like both on my 2 year old. Also use a humidfier or go to the bathroom and turn on hot water and close the doors and let the child breath in the steam. You can Raise the childs head with 2 pillows to help it. I have had to do this alot with my daughter. Good Luck

First let me say if she has phlegm in her chest and not just a post nasal drip, I would have her seen by a pediatricain. Just to be on the safe side.

If it is just a post nasal drip, which is very common this time of year with all of the changes in temperature and the heat from a heater. Also depending on her age she my be getting some of her molars and that can cause some fever and congestion. So here are some best bet tools to try.

Ok the best medicine I have found for nighttime cough is triaminic nighttime cough. My pediatrician has said it is safe for my 18 month old, but call yours to confirm and check appropriate dosage. It is a grape flavor and not as gross as some of the Robitussins.

During the day if she is coughing then there are some triaminics and pedicare. They all work fine so I usually choose by flavor. If she doesn't like to take medicine they also have those melt away strips for during the day. If she only coughs heavily at night or when she is running around during the day then I would avoid the cough medicine. Just go with a decongestant. Yellow Triaminic works and tastes best.

For fever if it doesn't break you can alternate Ibuprofen and Aceitominophen every 4 hours.

To help with congestion I would bring her in the bath room and let her sit in some steam. Also at night take vicks vapo rub and instad of putting it on her chest rub it pretty liberally on a handkerchief, fold it so it so the Vicks is on the inside and pin it with a big diaper pin to the inside of her nightie. It keeps the smell all night and doesn't get that rancid smell 1/2 way through the night. You also don't have to worry about her accidentally getting it in her eye or taking a bit scrub to get it off in the morning. And it keeps clothes from getting ruined.

A vaporizer is also good, but for me the bedroom is usually too big for it to be effective.

And finally just in case she is teething too. There are a newer product on the market called teething tablets. They are marketed my Hylands or the Little Teether (makers of Little Noses brand) and there is no real difference between the 2. They are homeopathic and melt on the tounge. You can even give them to infants. They help reduce inflamation and have really helped with my youngest.

Hope some of this helps. Hope your daughter feels better soon.

Happy Holidays

Well you need to call her pediatrician if they have an after hours line. if it's really bothering her i would take her to the hospital tonight because they might have to give her an antibiotic. But if you're trying to just give her something to hold her over tonight, than give her children's tylenol and follow the dosage on the box... but she'll definetly have to go to the doctor if she's got phlegm.. don't give her any milk, some oj, pedialyte, anything with some vitamin c...that will hold her until you can get her to get some prescriptions and so she can get her a flu shot.

I have given my 20 month old Mucinex for children and Triminanic (the yellow one) and the one that seemed to work the best in th Mucinex for children, when I called his doctor about it they told me to give him one teaspoon because he ways 30 lbs. I read the label and it says that is what to give a 2 year old so. If you ever have any questions just call your childs doctor. Hopes this helps. Baby Benedryl doesnt work (at least for my son) it makes him really hyper, and usually after he takes it for a day or 2 he's got a really bad cough.

Hi - You should always take you child to the doctor especially if she is running a fever. If you're child is getting sick all the time you should really seek the advice of a health care professional.

We use (on the advice of doctor's) Dimetapp or Demazin to assist in reducing the symptoms of cold and flus. We also use an antihistamine from the chemist to help with sedation (causes drowsiness and is also great for travel sickness in small children). To keep temperature down stick with children's paracetamol and if your child has an upset tummy stay clear of children's nurofen as this irritates the tummy.

REMEMBER - you should always seek professional medical advice, especially if your child is running a fever.

Check with your pediatrician and your pharmacist before giving medications to children. There is medications you can purchase over the counter to help him/her. In the old days hot bath and then had good ole Vick's rub onto our chest to help open our passages. But check first

Triaminic usually covers several symptoms. Read the label to find out specifically what it treats.
