It is a derivative of the word victuals which was also pronounced as vitttles and described any kind of food. Victuals is a very old word not heard much any more except maybe way down south.

viddles is also jsut an old word for food in general...often it was spelled vittles....i'm sure viddlesis just a southern spelling...
