I am sure this will cause some problems. As a cop you have to look at people equally. Being racist this will create a barrier and you will probably end up pulling one race over or giving one race a hard time over another. You need to work on your self discipline. We all have some sort of a wall that keeps us from being exactly what we want to be. The great thing with you, you have found your fault and admitted to it! Now you can start working through this and find a way around it. Good luck!

If racisim is your religion the answer is no. If it is your political stance, probably Yes, it will keep you off the force.. I suppose the question you should be prepared to answer is this.. as a racist, are you a good enough man to be just or not. If you can't be fair and just, how could you expect to be a good cop? I think the truth of the matter is this.. probably, we all are racist to some degree.. and each of us have a right to feel as we wish, but we do not have the right to use our bias in a hurtfull or negative way toward others.. not all cops are good people.. but a lousy person could be a good cop if they are fair and just and apply the law equally..

Probably not at first.
You might pass the psych test and get into the academy, but you will give yourself away eventually. Then you will have to deal with your fellow officers. None of them will want to work with you, the members of the race that you hate will be watching you constantly, and... YOU WILL NEVER PROMOTE.
So, find something else to do. Police officers have a hard enough time living down stupid rumors and unfounded accusations of racism without having someone like you to make their job even more difficult.

I would hope that being a racist would prevent you from being a cop. If you know you are a racist, why would you even want to be a cop? Why don't you try working on seeing people for who they are and not their color. What makes you think you are so above someone else. I don't know who you race you are racist about, but I am white and I am appalled that we would have a cop like you. You need to do some real soul searching. God doesn't judge us by the color of our skin or our nationality, so just tell me why you are racist.

Anyone's racist attitudes would probably disqualify the individual from the applicant pool, for a position in law enforcement, during the pre-employment background check portion of the hiring process.

Depends on the police department. That's sad to have to say these days, but very true. No matter how we want to see things, it's not all rose colored. There are still very many racist people out there (which I don't get, but whatever) and yes, lots of them are cops.
So, if you are vocal about it, and very apparent - then yes .. it can present a problem for you, especially if you are assigned into a position where your boss is of a race that you are predjudice against.
Unfortunately, if you are quiet about it, and you do not let on about this hold up you have, then you will be ok - considering you pass the lie detector tests, background checks, physical exams, and psychological exams. Just .. don't be stupid and go beating up people of a different color than yourself. It's only skin ... many people of many backgrounds can turn out to be someone you greatly admire in your life. But, you are who you are .. and I am sure you will not change. So just be careful holding these opinions you hold.

You are right about some using their race as a key to get what they want or buy sympathy. I am caucasian and I am Catholic. I could gripe about many things. I could hate baptists because when I go to their churchs I feel uncomfortable about being begged to appear in front of the entire parish to announce that I am new. I could gripe about jewish people being largely responsible for the mobs. I could moan and groan about the lack of scholarships for young, female, single, white, mothers.
Here's why I don't:
ALL people of ALL walks of life have their downfalls. You cannot generalize an entire group of people because of one or several bad apples. Think of the people who ARE in that group (by birth and not by attitude) and are ashamed to even have to share the same religion or skin color of the person giving them a bad rap. It's the same with a black person who was harassed once by a racist cop, and that black person has been an upstanding citizen all of their life with a good job, and healthy morales. Now, they hate all cops and believe they are all bad. Is it fair or OK that when they learn someone is a cop, they start hating them? Well, sure ... that's their right to feel that way. But is it morally right? No. Because if you become a cop, and you are a good one (pretending you aren't racist while speaking of you in this manner) you would be thrown into a category of bad cops when you have done nothing wrong but serve and protect your city/county/state/country. NO ONE deserves to be generalized like that. What the ancestors of the caucasion people did to the African people was wrong on so many levels. It's also in the past. Many of us weren't even around when it was happening, and those who were alive during the segregation times well - either they are a dieing breed of racists or they are safe to be friends with a person of another race today.
Bottom line:
There are welfare abusers, drug users, rapists, lazy bums, whiners, complainers, gangsters, filthy mouthed rappers, users, losers, dead-beat parents, child molesters, robbers, murderers and more of ALL RACES - and yes, even of yours. Do you deserve to be hated because of something someone else did?

Consider how ignorant racism is, and how important a role a Police Officer's role is in society. You must be able to look at things in a neutral and combative fashion, free from opinionated B.S. driven by the dislike of one's skin color. I hope you learned quick..rookie.

Yes...I would hope it would get you barred. There are enough bad cops out there without you adding fuel to the fire.
And I happen to know many more cops who are great. They don't need you...you would only becoem a headache for them. And if you overstepped your duties, then the city and dept. could be sued...and that would cost ALL the taxpayers.
Nope...please...go into another field....and not a doctor either, nor a teacher. Why don't you just find a job working from home? You should be safe that way.

First let me ask you this. Why are you a racist? Why do you hate other people? What gives you the right?
And like someone else said. Racist and smart are things that are diffrent. I'll say it to you now. Being a racist will affect you becomeing a cop.

Find another line of work. Or get over it.
Why would you let other people affect you? You're CHOOSING to hate. You have the power to change it.
You can't be an officer and hate people....that's not what police work is about.
