I've told this story b4 about the stray kittens under neighbors porch. I'm afraid they r gonna freeze. They r wild and won't come near u. How can we catch them? The s.p.c.a. don't have any available traps until 3wks. They will freeze by then they are only 3 mths old at the most. I put food out for them everyday. We put a cage down w/food in it and snuck up behind it to close the door and they r so fast, u can't catch them. They sense when ur even near them. How else can we catch the lil sneaky buggers?

There is a website that tells you how to make your own trap from stuff you already have around the house. I will give you that later. If there are four of them, and they are staying together, they will probably be OK. They snuggle up to stay warm. Maybe your neighbor would let you put a plastic picnic cooler under the porch. If you had a big one you could spare, that would help to hold in the heat. Just put it under there on its side.

If they are three months old and wild cats, they won't let you get near them. The best thing you could do is leave out food for them. They make body heat by burning calories. For those wild cats, any leftover meat would be OK. If you could buy some real cat food, that would be better. Make sure you put out some water every day. You could take the dish in and refill the water if it freezes. Wild cats are smart about finding places to stay warm and dry. If you can't get a trap, then the best thing you can do is feed.

This is the web site where they show you how to make a trap

Do not try to catch a three month old feral kitten with your bare hands. They will bite and scratch and you could end up with a nasty infection. If you can't get a trap, or build one, like two other posters said, then try to feed them.

The food will give them the energy they need to make their own body heat. Just how accessible is this porch. Is there a space big enough to slide in a good sized cardboard box? You can drop one of those boxes into a giant plastic bag, like you use for lawn/leaf. They are waaay bigger than the large plastic garbage bags. If you use duct tape to tape that bag around the box and run the plastic inside the box, that will keep the cardboard from getting wet. It would give them a little more shelter from the wind and cold.

If you can be sure the box will stay dry, you can put an old blanket in it or an old coat. Anything they can snuggle up in will help to keep them warm. Just be sure it can stay dry, because if it gets wet, it can freeze and make them more cold.

You are so nice to care about these cats. Not many people do. Just remember that wild cats have good survival instincts, and as long as they can get food and water, that is 90% of the battle they have to fight.

I hope this helped. Look into those traps you can make yourself.

I assume you have your neighbor's help with this, and are not tresspassing? Once I helped to catch some stray kittens at my college dorm (we gave them to a shelter.) It took a lot of patience. We brought them lunch meat (or wet cat food) every day and sat nearby (well out of arm's reach) to gain their trust. They seemed to love bologna, but I don't know if that's good for cats. Dry food will usually not work for trapping, because it doesn't smell as strong. If they are willing to come a little closer to you each time, you can try putting the meat inside a cat carrier and then shut the carrier when one goes inside it. You will need to take them to a shelter right away. Good luck!

The best way is with a live trap. My neighbor has one that we borrowed to catch the other neighbor's bunny that got away and didn't want to be caught. Look around, maybe some rental places may have some. Put food in the live trap and you're bound to get them, the door closes behind them before they know it, and it doesn't hurt them. Good luck and bless you for caring!

If you can't get a trap immediately, you might want to try looking in the phone book for trappers/exterminators. They should have some humane live traps to catch them. Only you'll have to pay for their services. Good luck!

If you contact me I will tell you a way that won't cost much but you will have to put it together. It works really well for the hard to catch cats.
I will not post here how for I don't want to show someone that would like to use it to kill them.
