Does Goodwill Take Car Seats

2017-01-11 10:53:26 · answer #2 · answered by buchberger 4 · 0 0

Lots of formal charities can't accept used car seats, since there's no way to prove that they've never been involved in an accident.

Plus, car seats "expire" and are supposed to be discarded after a certain number of years.

But it DOES feel wrong to just toss them, doesn't it?

I managed to share an infant car seat with another family whose kids were 8 months older than mine both times. I knew exactly when the car seat was purchased, and I knew it had never been in an accident.

I also managed to pass a car seat to my brother.

But I've seen people offer used car seats (for free, and with as much documentation as possible) on Craig's List or FreeCycle. Seems to work OK.

You likely will not find a church, Goodwill, etc. which will accept your used car seat.

If they have never been in a car accident, donate them to a womens shelture or list the seat on freecycle.
If the seat can't be used again, take it to the fire department. They will use the jaws of life on it so the seat can't be used again.

You should donate them to your local womans shelter. Only if they are no more than 6 years old. The plastic in car seats are no longer safe after that period of time. There should be a tag that has the manufacturing date on it!

I like the idea of donating them, but if you need a little cash, you could sell them (ebay have heaps). As long as they have never been in a car accident.

if they are not too old donate them to goodwill, salvation army etc...obviously you have to make sure there are no defects with them, broken strpas, cracked plastic etc and that they aren't too old since age can weaken them or weaken the frame and if they have ever been involed in any typr of car accident toss them

Pass them on to a friend or relative or coworker. If nothing else, sell it at a yard sale or donate it.

well if you are wanting to donate take them to a local women shelter or planned parenthood they always have teens that can't afford things and could use a good carseat.
