medicine dont always work, when i feel like this, i try work it off, and depends on how bad it is, most of the time it will work, its like sweeting it out, keeping busy to the point that you dont think about it, but if u are to the point where u can find it in you to do anything, then maybe its best you see your doctor, good luck

A cold has an incubation period of a few days to a week or two. No really useful medication is availiable for the common cold.

One method you should employ is to make a habit of "spitting out" the excess mucus when you cough. This excess mucus serves no other purpose but to cause infection and fill the lungs when swallowed (pneumonia).

However, considering the common cold is a result of a virus, antibiotics are of no value. Antihistamines, nose drops, vaccines, alkalis, ultraviolet rays have not proven to be of any value.

The best procedure is rest. Bed rest makes sense if the cold is heavy of if there is fever.

Fatigue always worsen the disease; Depression, nervous tension can help bring it on much faster, and worsen the disease, as well. Drink lots of fluids is helpful.

Vitamin C in large doses remains controversial. For some, it can be quite effective, while for others, eating a pound a day won't help.

It is worth a try - at least 2 grams a day. A physician cannot cure or shorten the duration of a cold, however whenever a cold is accompanied by a high fever (more than 102 degrees) or pain in the ear, chest, or lungs, a physician should be called.

Hope this answers your question!

Go to the doctor to make sure it's not bacterial. Bacterial infections can be treated with antibiotics. If it's viral, then you'll have to wait it out and treat the symptoms. For the coughing that makes you choke, the doctor can prescribe you a medication that thins the mucus, like Albuterol in liquid form. You can also sleep with a humidifier in your room to help as well. If you're like me, you can handle most things during the day, but coughing your guts out at night BITES. I usually get a medication that is also a "antihistamine", because it helps with sleeping too. :) Get well soon!

There's some good medicine you can pick up at your local supermarket or chemist.

Dimetapp and Lemsip are the best brands I've found to get rid of colds etc.

Although, for coughs specifically you could try any brand Cough medicine, and have some Anticol/Soothers etc on the side. Good luck.
