Yes when I was a child my mom would put it on my hair and scalp because I had a dry scalp. We would do it before bedtime and then wash it out in the morning. To be quite honest it is a chore to get it washed out though!!
I would be more inclined to use mayonaise instead. It is less greasy and has egg which is suppose to be good for your hair.
The actress Kristen Alphonso of Days of Our Lives fame was once quoted in a magazine as saying that she uses mayonaise on her hair for moisture and shine.
Of course there are many products out there that you can buy that will do similiar things for your hair...Make sure you are using a good quality shampoo and conditioner and get your hair cut regularly as this will cut down on the dry ends and fly away issues too...

I have never used Crisco, but I do know a few tricks for helping with dry hair. I used to be dye my hair all the time and what worked most for me is an extra deep conditioner. Usually a deep 3-5 minute conditioner by Pantene or Thermasilk did wonders. Most people with normal hair use it once a week, since your hair is dry and damaged, you may have to use it more. A great place to go get salon strength over night treatments and deep treatments is a Sally's Beauty Supply.

this is some heavy duty grease. before you leap to that you may want to stop some things you are doing to your hair. like lay off of heat, chemicals and load down with moisturizers. a good moisturizing conditioner, less shampoo (your hair still gets clean without a shampoo) dove and tresemme make thick very moisturizing conditioners. organic root stimulator or organic's hair mayonnaise have lots of juicy herbs and oils. you can use this as a deep condtioner.
i would suggest deep conditioning every 2 weeks with a plastic bag over your head. and also oils do not moisturize. they seal in moisturizer. so it would be best to use a product such as a conditioner to moisturize with then top with an oil or butter. even a regular conditioner will work as a good leave in. make sure to pay close attention to your ends. some good butters to try are shea and cocoa. try the palmer's if you cant find it unrefined (pure) olive, castor, and soybean oils are also good to seal in moisture with.
no curling iron, blow dryer, hair dye, or other chemicals i would say for at least 2 months. if you must get curls, use rollers. there are several sizes and varities. if you use a sponge roller get the satin covered ones. they hve them at walmart.

I remember hearing that Marilyn Monroe used to put it in her bleached out blonde hair...but that was in the 50's. I suppose it works just fine if it's all you have to work with, but nowadays there are so many other great (and less messy) products out there. I really like this stuff by Biolage called Ultra Hyrating Balm. It really coats your hair and leaves it feeling silky, without feeling greasy. Also Kerastase makes this styling product called Oleo Relax, it's a hair serum and when I put it in my (very frizzy, dry and curly) hair, it feels soft, and looks shiny. It kind of pricey, but it lasts a long time and it's well worth it. I hope this helped....

crisco? like in calvin and hobbes? no, i have dry hair, and I just used a moisturizing shampoo, and stopped staightening my hair for a while. . . I use this neutrogena shampoo that's alight pink( sorry jsut ran out and threw out the bottle and don't remember what it was called) but it worked wonders- even wehn i didn't have time to use conditioner.
I think crisco would just be a mess to clean out! And even grosser to touch!
