I see my friend's horse who knows how to lie down, but when the horse gets mad he just lies down. I don't want to teach him anything that will hinder his ability to do the mexican "Charro" riding. Would it just result in a disaster, or will it increase his value?

It depends on the tricks you want to teach him and on how you teach him. For example, if you ever watch the Trickonometry tapes by Carole Fletcher you'll notice how her horse is constantly searching and nipping at her for treats because that is how she rewards him. I'm not saying that you shouldn't give him treats for doing something good, but she has overdone it and now she looks as if she has problems with him. But then again, I once worked with someone who taught an Arab stallion to do all kinds of tricks and he never had any problems with the horse.

Teaching the horse tricks helps stimulate his mind and body instead of him growing bored and restless. It can also increase his value depending on who you want to sell him to.

You need to think long and hard about the tricks you would like him to learn. Research the different ways to teach him and come up with a plan of your own. As the other person said, it can create problems in the long run, but if you have done your research and know what you are doing, then it could definitely be worth it.

You should if you want to, but I'd be careful on which tricks you teach because they may become an annoying behavior in a horse. I taught my horse to push open gates on command, bad idea, now she pushes the gates to the arena and her stall door open before she has her halter on and gets out. Some tricks are funny like shake hands, smile, and hugging. My Dad's horse knew how to do those and it was too funny. Just watch out for those that may become annoying.

it is completely up to you but it depends on the tricks you want to teach him some will eventually turn into bad habits and he will just do it when he feels like it and it can sometimes teach your horse to be very pushy but it also all depends on your horses attitude

If you teach a horse to do tricks then it'll just give you problems later...don't do it

Yes, you should teach it tricks if you feel like it.
