For someone riding a bicycle down the California coast (from the north), what is the best way (easiest, safest, shortest) to get through the L.A. urban area to Studio City (the Ventura, Coldwater Canyon intersection)?

I live in Malibu. Stay on PCH south through here until you get to Chattaqua Blvd. in Santa Monica. Go left through the canyon and wind up the hill as the street turns into 7th street. At the top of the hill is San Vicente Bl.. Turn left heading east until you reach Wilshire Blvd. Turn left also heading east through Westwood until you reach Santa Monica Bl. Turn left heading east again on Santa Monica Blvd. until you reach Beverly Drive. Take Beverly Drive up to and across Sunset Blvd. where Beverly will turn into Coldwater Canyon. Up and over the hill and down to Ventura Blvd. Most direct route on major streets with no real danger to you as a cyclist except on PCH and Coldwater can be a little tight but you'll be fine if you are a good rider. All the neighborhoods are extremely safe, so there is no danger of losing your bike. You can also take Sunset all the way from PCH but it is actually longer because the road is winding, adding mileage, and it can be pretty tight most of the way, with heavy traffic, especially through Brentwood and past UCLA. Enjoy your ride.

well you have some choices -if are starting from Malibu
you could take one of the canyon roads to the valley, then Ventura Blvd.. or take PCH to say Sunset (dont recommend it )
to higland and onto into the Valley that way,,(you could
also stay on PCH to the Californa incline then Wilshire or Santa monica to Highland and the valley
there is an alternete way the Metro Buses have bike racks
on their buses, you can easy board the Metro 534 (get a day pass for $3.00) then you can take the bus either to Sunset
then transfer to a 302 to Highland then board another Metro bus to studio city//

From there you may proceed in Orange County as a lot as Knotts Berry Farm in Buena Park. then you definately bypass north on coastline Blvd. to street ninety one east to street fifty seven north to interstate 10 east to the Ontario generators Mall on the second one day. once you're finished there, get on interstate 10 lower back heading west to street 100 and one northwest previous Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley to the Camarillo Mall. Then once you're finished there, get decrease back on street 100 and one north to Santa Barbara and hookup with Pacific Coast street (street a million) and stay at a inn on the third day (you may sleep on your motor vehicle at a relax stop also). on the fourth day you may proceed on the lengthy and winding street up the coast to major Sur and Monterey.
