Many of the months of the year are named after Roman Gods ie March = the roman god of war Mars January is the month of the two faced god Janus June is for the Goddess Juno. July named for the deified Julius Ceaser August for Augustus etc.
Should the twelve months of the year be named after the twelve disciples instead?
Say today could be the 4th of Judas or say your birthday could be the 11 of Doubting Thomas. How cool would that be??
Lobby your government and it could happen, get those Pagans off our calenders now!!!

Actually, yes. My apologies to any Christians this may offend, but it's the truth.

Best example is probably Easter Sunday, taken from the pagan celebrations of the vernal equinox. Even the name is taken from the word "Oestara" which translates into "eastern star". Also, many of the symbols of Easter, including Easter eggs and the Easter Bunny - while not strictly Christian symbols - have their roots in pagan practices related to celebrating the vernal equinox.

Likewise Christmas... a.k.a. "Yule", the pagan celebration of the winter solstice. Even Biblical evidence seems to point to the fact that Jesus was not born on Christmas day. But celebrating Jesus' birth on Christmas was one of the many things the Church tried in order to bring the areas in Europe that were pretty much pagan at the time Christianity was trying to take over Europe (and other areas.)

Hopefully this isn't going to start a long discussion between Christians and pagans about who's right and wrong. But, like I've already said, it is the truth.

1 John 4:5-6
5 They are from the world; therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God; he who knows God listens to us; he who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

John 18:36
36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

1 Corinthians 5:9-10
9 I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people;
10 I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world.

We use the Gregorian calendar which Pope Gregory started! Christians don't have any religious calendar like the Jews and Muslims!

I don't know about USA, we couldn't even accept the metric system. And to me, it's just a way to keep track of time and dates, I don't really care about what the actually months are called, so it'd be easier not to change them.
