Solomon the wise had a thousand wives and concubines (a) "And he (Solomon) had seven hundred wives, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart (towards other gods). "KINGS 1 1:3 (b) Abraham the friend of God had more than one wife; and so had Israel (Jacob) and David the king. Christians aren't supposed to be polygamous. Read the whole chapter of Genesis 12 and you'll see that Abraham told her to say that she is his sister so he won't be killed. He thought the Egyptians would kill him for his wife, Sarah, who was beautiful. when the Egyptians found out that Sarah was Abraham's wife, they sent her back to him and told Abraham to move on.
She was his half-sister, and it was customary in the culture he came from to do such a thing. He married her before God revealed Himself to Abraham.
Hagar was given in marriage so it wouldn't be considered an adulterous affair. Sarah couldn't have children so she gave Hagar so that it would be considered that Sarah had children through her handmaid. Hagar was a surrogate mother since Sarah couldn't conceive.
By the way, Abraham wasn't Christian.

Solomon wasn't Christian either, He was Jewish, and got caught up in being king. I will believe you if you can show me just one chapter and verse reference where God told these men to have more than one wife. God never commanded Solomon to have that many wives, they were from pagan nations and turned his heart away from the true God. Why would God tell him to do something that would turn him away from the truth? God never told David to have more than one wife, never commanded him to get another one. Jacob (Israel) was tricked into having two wives. He served Laban for seven years for Rachel the younger daughter. When the wedding came, Leah was given and it wasn't discovered until morning. Laban's excuse was that it wasn't right for the younger daughter to be given in marriage before the older one. So Jacob served another seven years for Rachel since that was the one he actually loved. Read the whole story, not just verses you want to pick out.
1 Corithians 7:2 says "Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband." (note the words wife and husband are singular)

In the old testament. It was common practice then. They were begining to populate the earth. Then people figured it was okay for the whole thing to continue so it became normal in some religions. It is not normal in mine and I am a christian so I am not sure where it occurs today but I have heard of some religions that do it. Even then the ones who still practice it are fewer and farther between and are not the norm.

You need to have at least SOME basic fundamental understanding of the history at the time those verses were written to help you better understand WHY they were written and to whom they pertain. Obviously you haven't the foggiest idea on any of these things and wish to try to force some make believe agenda where none exists, so please...go; study the Bible in contextual terms next time, and you will have answered your own questions!

In the USA and most most other civilized countries it's one spouse per customer. Why in the world would you want more than one? Obviously you've never been married.......
