Most women get a little bit pregnancy sick during the first 3 to 5 months of gestation. The symptoms mostly consist of loss of appetite, nausea, sleepiness and vomiting. Some pregnant women get very ill and are unable to keep much in their stomach for most of the first trimester. This can result in some weight loss, however if a woman losses more than 10 pounds or if the sickness continues past 5 months gestation, then the woman should definitely consult her doctor about it.

When a woman is pregnant her sense of smell is heightened... Smell is closely linked with appetite... When you smell certain smells such as turkey or cookies they invoke a memory usually associated with eating and a happy memory... At the same time when you smell other smells such as mold, something rotten etc it invokes a non apprtite memory a sick memory.... With a pregnant woman heightened sense of smell she smells both the appetizing smells and the non appetizing smells more and her appetite will change with the smells...

If it's a lose of appetite for a few hours it's nothing to be concerned about it will pass however if it lasts a long time the woman may need to check her enviroment and be sure there isn't something constantly triggering the non appetite and get rid of it....If that's not the case she may need to be placed on a special diet she eats even when not hungry hormones are in play that can and will do alot of strange things including causing variables in appetite...

Everyone's pregnancy is different. You can possible lose your appetite. During the 1st trimester I was so sick, especially in the mornings and late night. I did lose my appetite around those times. But after that all I wanted was lobster and butter sauce. If you are worried about this please see your obgyn. Good luck to you.

It depends on the woman. I spent the first 2 trimesters vomitting everytime I even smelled something edible. Was almost hosptialized before we found the right antinausea medicine. Then in my 3rd trimester I ate steak like I was a one woman cow extermination squad. I actually ended up weighing less at delivery than I had at conception. If you wife/girlfriend etc is losing weight rapidly she should contact her doctor or if she just plain can't keep anything down (I would vomit after a glass of water sometimes) she needs to see them also.

I did with both of my pregnancies. With both all I did and have done is loss weight. But I am a heavier girl weighing roughly 185 and I have lost between eight and ten pounds with this pregnancy and I am 25 weeks. My ob doesn't seem concerned since this happened with my first baby and she come out weighting 8 lb 14 oz.

I lost my appetite during the last week or two of my pregnancy and from what I understand, that is very common.

Yes it is. I had no appetite what so ever for the first few months. Then my appetite included eating like six meals a day so at first I think its fairly normal.

Is there a "normal" during pregnancy? It's different for everyone. It's especially normal during the morning sickness time.
