And I don't mean I'm not a registered driver... I am. I just left my actual license by a friends house and it will be a while before I can get over there to pick it up. If I am pulled over without having it on me; what's the concequence. Thanks in advance!

Not a big deal hun. In most states, they will give you 24 hours to produce your license and if you show the court clerk, they will usually throw the ticket out (if you even get one)!

I can't believe some of the responses you have received for this question. All states have NCIC as well as their own states database. In Florida it is called FCIC. With your information provided they can check your drivers license to see if it is valid. In Florida they also have a database called DAVID. This system is through the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) and it displays your license information and your picture to verify who you are. With that being said, if you are pulled over and your license is valid, it is a citation (fix it ticket). Which means in 30 days if you produce your license and the copy of the ticket (to the clerk of courts) it is a $15.oo fine. That is if the officer even writes you a ticket and not a warning. We understand sometimes you leave it behind by accident. Every state is different. I would contact your local pd or sheriff's office for further information.

This happened to me before. I was on my way home and got pulled over and guess what I didn't have my license on me either and I was a block from home. The officer gave me a written warning and I had 7 days to go to the court with the ticket and my license and they throw the ticket out. But, the officer chewed me out big time for it. He told me that he can take me to jail and if I remember correctly he stated it is a misdomenar for driving without a license.

It's usually not that big of an issue all though it IS recommended you have it on you at all times for several reasons. If you get pulled over they CAN run your name and find out if you have a valid license or not.

Go and get it as soon as you can. You may not get in a lot of trouble as long as you have a valid license, but it is not a good idea to drive around without it.

Your license also serves as a form of identification so that if anything happens to you, they know where to locate your family. They can get all of this information anyway, but it makes it that much simpler if you have it with you.

Used to, in Missouri, you did not have to physically have your license on you to drive (as long as you were licensed). This may have changed, but I don't think so. I doubt if it's too high a fine, though, if it is.

In California it is an infraction - CVC 12951 - and is punishable by fine only.
