I have to *make* a gift for someone's birthday, which is several days after christmas, however, they live 1500 miles away, so I really need to ship it -- which means I probably want to ship it as early as possible as well.

The girl I like is also one of my better friends, so I want it to be something memorable, but I don't want a gift to be overly romantic either.

I want it to be a real object -- not something look cookies or a CD or something.

The girl is Venezuelan, so if I could incorporate that somehow (for instance, if something had to deal with birds, use the Venezuelan state bird) that would probably work to my advantage as well

The other thing is that since I am going to have to ship it, it has to be something not too delicate, or that can be easily and safely packaged.

Please, help. I really can't think of anything that doesn't require a lot more planning ahead.

To Bridgette: It's still an entire month away, and I've been making things since four months ago. I do care. I'm doing this now because I want to make sure I have everything done. Thanks for making rash statements without prior knowledge.

Anything with dried flowers, anything monogramed with her name, write poetry and book bind it, make a journal with blank pages, make a comic book with personal captions, make a calendar for each month put your picture or her picture, use a Dremel tool and etch onto a glass or frame. Blow up a picture and have it framed. Take a photo and have it framed.

You might want to make a photo book. You can go to Shutterfly.com and upload pictures. They print out a book with the pictures and theme that you select (you also can add text) and mail it to you (or right to the person you are creating the book for). That would be something that looks nice, is easy to ship and sturdy enough to survive the shipping. Also, you can incorporate Venezuelan themes and make the message as romantic (or unromantic) as you choose. Good luck!!!

You could possibly decorate a photo frame or make earrings. I'm sure you could find some beads with a bird on them. Decorating a frame is the easiest thing i can thing of. So if you like it go for it!

Make something from wood. How about a small jewelry box with the state bird on top?

Then you should have planned ahead, it is her B-day after all. It's not like it has changed since last year.

send her a nice bottle of perfum, it shows you care, does not break easely in transit, it is small so it is not to expensive to ship, it does not spoil.
