I have just stained my floor a red chestnut finish, and I have dark areas where the brush overlapped, what should I do to remove it. I want to finish with a clear coat over it.

I do believe you are going to have to re-sand the spots where the brush overlapped if you want to remove the stain. Sorry.

Wipe the dark areas where the brush overlapped with mineral spirits or paint thinner. Make sure to use a lint free cloth. And if you happen to remove to much of the stain you can reapply it after the mineral spirits has evaporated or dried good, say the next day.

You should always wipe off the excess stain with a lint free cloth if you have to apply it with a brush it just makes it blend better. When I redo furniture I always apply the stain with an old rag it just works better for me.

rent a floor buffer and get a steel wool pad. clean the area with paint thinner.the steel wool will lighten the dark spots. always use a rag to apply stain in the future and always wipe off the excess with a clean rag this will eliminate this problem.once the floor is dry apply your clear coat.i would use three coats of clear coat so it will last.

You have the choice of putting more stain to make the color even, sanding the darker spot and re-staining just that spot or sand the whole thing and re-stain,being a little more careful.

Ask your supplier the hard questions when you’re narrowing down your choices.
