You can find alot online. Remember to always start with yourself first and work your way backwards. The mormon church has a huge library full of information that is open to the public for those doing a family history. Online you can try ancestry.com or geneology.com you can also purchase Family tree at Best Buy which contains CD's with alot of info as well as how to get started. Geneology is based on fact, not here say, and thru the years stories your family has told may have changed So always remember you are searching for facts. Good luck on your journey around the world for this is where it will take you, and don't expect to get there quickly this will be a long trip. you are going to be so surprised at all of the many treasures waiting for you.You will be amazed! I spent several years doing a family history and the library in the county of my grandmothers birth did a search for me and I was blessed to recieve in the mail from them a photo of my grandmas "Grandfather" That to me was awesome! This will be a trip of a lifetime enjoy it.

If you live in the USA and are willing to spend an hour and a half, you could do me a HUGE favor and learn about your family tree at the same time.

Get a list of your grandparents, their birth, marriage & death dates and places, maiden names for the grandmothers. If you can do it for your great grandparents, even better. If you don't have all the dates and places for all the people, that is OK.

Then go to

http://www.tedpack.org/genclass1.html

Work through the exercises. They all ask you to look up someone from your list on the free data bases. Where it says to do it for one or two people, do it for all of them. I'd like to know if you find it clear, helpful and well-laid out.

It is for a class I'm going to do at our library on Internet genealogy for beginners.

I'd appreciate feedback; what worked, what didn't, what was clear, what wasn't, what caused you problems. You will probably find some clues to your family tree and you will certainly get an introduction to some of the largest free genealogy sites on the Internet.

Thanks!

Go to any Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints stake center that has a Family History Center. They have the computers and the programs needed to help you do your research. Also, you do NOT have to be a member of the church to use them.

No expensive, there is not any longer. If there replaced into, every person who had to could locate out your beginning date and your mom's maiden call, the two issues that banks ask to make certain your identity. Then that they had be properly ontheir thank you to stealing your identity and your funds. they could additionally locate out that your uncle Leroy had infants by 3 distinctive women human beings and in no way married a one in all them, and that your dad and mom had to get married in June of 1990, except your brother Jason replaced into delivered VERY ahead in September of 1990. So, maximum genealogical data you stumble on on line are of ineffective human beings. you will get returned to approximately 1930, in the u . s . a ., in the past you will locate on line records. there is not any longer a normal thank you to do it. it quite is why family tree is a activity, like fly fishing. It takes practice. figuring out to purchase a packet of fish and chips isn't a activity, inspite of the undeniable fact that it quite is easy; hooking and landing a scuffling with sixteen-inch German brown trout on a dry fly is a activity, and it quite isn't any longer ordinary. in the experience that your grandparents are alive, they could inform you who THEIR grandparents have been, which grant you with your super super grandparents. in the experience that your grandparents are ineffective, their obituaries, demise certificates, funeral courses, burial information, SSN purposes and marriage license will inform you approximately them

You can go to National Geographic.com and (if you have $100) get a DNA sample kit. It won't give specific names of relatives but can give you a map of your genes (where ancestors came from). Interesting!
