Here's a trick that works particularly well for me; watch it at daytime.
Sure, on video it can be hard to see, what with everything happening in the dark so the TV looks black for most of it, but try to darken the room. Then stop when things calm down, use the loo, grab a brewski, etc - break it up to ease the tension. Or go see an early session at the flicks - scare the living faeces out of yourself, then go for a nice walk/shop/whatever.
Come night time, it will be long out of your system.

Next time don't watch scary movies if you're not gonna be able to sleep. Go online and look for mistakes in the movie and bloopers. That should help make it less real.

yea, i have the same problem, but not with scary movies. i can't watch movies or shows with aliens. hey, even the theme song from unsolved mysteries can keep me awake.

the best way that i've gotten over it is by not watching things that my mind will frighten me with. also, there are so many puzzling things that i solve all the time anyway, so my mind is quite active - that's the key, keeping your mind occupied elsewhere.

boring, reptitive things are the best before sleep - like really REALLY easy crossword puzzles, or really easy to read books. you're not supposed to do things that keep your mind active when you try to sleep, but if you bore your mind, that's another story

watch the movie when it is day, that way you do more things inbetween watching the movie and sleeping. thus the movie is less fresh in your mind

if you think about your grandma in a bikini that will probably take your mind off the movie.
