I think some people use the internet to meet others in order to have a virtual relationship in which they would never have to meet them in real life in order to avoid situations they might run into had it been a real in-person relationship.
I find that many people that search for relationships online do so because they have tried off the internet, but have failed. Thus, the internet is a place where people can get to know each other without first rejecting the other person because of appearance.

I've met two guys from the internet when I was actively dating. I'm not a bar person, and I spent a lot of time on the internet, so it was a logical choice for me.
The first guy was . . . scary. He seemed normal at first, and after kissing him on the second date, he started biting my lip. I wasn't into that, and that was the end of that date.
The second guy . . . I've been with him for over three years. :) He's the one, and we both knew it before we'd ever met in person.
So, I think it's a good thing if you are careful. I've met lots of people online, but I only felt safe meeting two of them in person. And I told my friends and family where I was and who I was with.

Have you heard of Internet Predators. Be very aware of who you meet on the Internet. If you are a woman meeting a man through the Internet then the chances of him wanting sex are of the chain.. If your not convinced watch some reality detective shows as the majority of murders are toward women. (not necessarily the Internet)

People have been hurt really bad because they trusted someone they met over the internet. A person can lie as to their gender, financial background, even arrest record, in emails and chatrooms. It's best to rely on conventional face-to-face contact to get to know someone as a friend or more.

I'm ok with it, but I"d always meet in a public place and have a friend or two with me.
Also, it would take me months to get to know this person before I would even let him know where exactly I live or give out too much personal information. THere are many people who can portray they are one type of person, but are the complete opposite the longer you get to know them. Give yourself plenty of time to look for "red flags".

make sure you have precautions, like don't give them your address until you talk on the phone. meet in a public place to begin with and always tell someone where you are going. Otherwise I don't have any problems with it, that's how I met my boy.

There is nothing wrong with it because that is where I met my boyfriend and we are still going strong after 9 months of dating.
