What kind of dog is it? Bigger breeds might look a bit older because they're bigger..
The dog's probably just trying to get you to pet him and pay attention to him when he's crying. As he grows older, most likely he'll realize that you can't be expected to love on him constantly so he'll shut up somewhat.
Puppies tend to be pretty clumsy; it isn't unusual for them to run into things and stuff. Why d'you think his vision is off?
If you take your puppy to a vetinarian, he'll probably be able to look at his teeth stuff to get a pretty close guess at the dog's age. (My dog Peanut was supposedly 2 1/2 years old when we adopted him from an animal shelter. The vet later proved that he was actually almost 5 by looking at his teeth. Ever seen Black Beauty? They check the horses' teeth to find out their ages, too. [= )
Hope this helps some.

I'd get him to a vet for a new puppy check-out. Then, he'd get a round of shots, etc. The vet could diagnose any potential problems and give you an approximate age.
Also, just 'cause he cries dont mean you need to hold him. This would be an AWESOME time to start crate training. It will come in handy with the new baby you have coming. Find a shirt you wouldnt mind giving up, wear it till it stinks like you then place it in the crate with the dog. The dog will feel more comfortable being able to smell you. This will also make crate training easier, because the dog wont feel so left alone.
I am going to HIGHLY suggest taking your dog off Puppy Chow. Buy an all-life-stages formula of dog food like Canidae (found at PetCo & Pet Supplies Plus) or Merrick (found at PSP). Puppy formulas have more protein then is needed for growing dogs and can make them grow at an outrageous rate which could be harmful to their joints, causing problems like hip dysplasia or arthritis later in their life. A better dog food can also help with any minor health problems he has. (Of course a vet knows best and that should be your first stop!)
Good luck with the new puppy and use this (http://k9deb.com/nilif.htm) as a training resource. Since the new one is a pit mix, please please please do research about temperment and what to expect as an owner.

He is just a baby who was taken away from mommy too soon! Get a box put a blanket in the bottom or newspaper. Get a plastic bottle fill it w/ warm water & put that & a Clock (that ticks) under the newspaper. The puppy will curl up right next to these items. He cries because he is lonely & missing u aka mommy!! If u r not sure then take him to a vet & get him checked, they can tell u how old he is & if he's ok! Good luck!!

The pup might not be as old as they told you, or maybe he just hasnt developed as fast as he should. For the crying, he is still a baby and in a new place he is scared. He dosent have his mother anymore, and he felt safe with his mother. When on the ground he fills alone and unsafe. When you hold him he feels safe. Also, when he cries hes learned you will pick him up. Most of it may be he just wants to be held and he knows how to get what he wants. Instead of picking him up reach down and pet him and give him some kind of treat. Slowly he will learn crying wont get him held. Also, give him a stuffed toy, it should help. Puppies are use to being with their mother all the time, and they sleep with their mother. Now you pup has nothing, he should feel safe and sleep with the stuffed toy. Like a teddy bear. Good Luck.

At 7 weeks (49 days), a puppy should be friendly, inquisitive, and energetic. He should be able to run across the room, although he may be a little clumsy looking. He will cry a little for attention, cause he misses his mama. When you pick him up, its a bit scary for him. Feels like the fastest elevator ride you can imagine. Make sure you hold him securely and gently support his little legs when you pick him up.
His vision should be clear, if you think there is a problem, have it checked by a vet. It could be an infection, and could be fixed.
If he will stay in a baby swing, he must either be a really tiny breed of dog, or just too young to squirm and crawl out.
A vet exam will tell for sure. A baby who is too young needs special care to grow up healthy and avoid problems later.

It's not unusual for a puppy to whine a lot when it first arrives at your home. It's away from its mom and littermates for the first time, and isn't used to it new surroundings.
However, you should NOT pick it up whenever it whines. What you're doing is teaching the puppy that if it makes a lot of noise it will get attention.
You want to teach it that it will get attention when its QUIET and behaving well. The way to do this is to be gentle but firm with your puppy. When it's having a tantrum tell it calmly but firmly to "settle down" and "be quiet" and then IGNORE IT. (That may be difficult, but the puppy needs you to be a good parent to it, and teach it well.) As soon as it's quiet, go to it and give it lots of praise and attention.
It may take a few hours for the puppy to understand what you want, but it WILL learn to behave if you're consistent, calm, and firm with it.

He sounds younger which can cause you loads of behavioral problems.....I would bet on it!
Check his teeth, are they there and how far in? How about his eyes are they still cloudy with blue? How does the little guy get around? Wobbly?
He is most likely 4-5 wks if he is acting like this. I would really look into getting him into a vet asap! Especially if you are pregnant. This little guy needs to start a deworming program!

he misses his bothers and sisters. try putting an old-fashioned alarm clock in a baby blanket or inside a stuffed animal or pillow and put him in a boz or crate with it. and don't expect the crying to stop right away. it will take a while (maybe even a few weeks) for him to get used to you. Look at it this way: if you are having a baby, it will be keeping you up all night, so this is just God getting you ready for that!

Cus he is a baby! He sounds like a normal 7 week old pup to me.. get a small crate and put him in that and keep him near you. He will fuss but then will stop.
He is no different than raising a baby.. Bad time to get a new puppy when you are due soon to have a human baby..

Take him to a vet and they will be able to tell you apprx. how old he is. Dogs are a lot like kids, if you continue to pick him up when he cries he will always cry and have separation anxiety. You have to let him cry. Maybe leave him some toys. Good luck.
