The reason you can't find pictures of "deerhead" chihuahuas is because there isn't any such thing. It's a term to describe the head shape on poorly bred or mixed chis. Chihuauha's are supposed to have the "applehead" shape.

My nephew and my brother both have deer head chihuahuas. One of them is chocolate and tan and the other is black and tan. I don't know what the typical colors are but you can probably go to the AKC site and look it up. I'm sure color can vary from solid to having different points. Sounds like a pretty dog!
Originally the old lines of chi's had heads that looked more like a deer. Then people started breeding them to have the apple head and that stuck as AKC and others felt it was more asethestically pleasing...You will not find the deer head chi's in a show ring. Nor will you find problems with hydrocephalgia (water on the brain) in the deer head as you find in the apple head because of the rounder dome to the head. It's all a matter of taste. There nothing wrong with either. The deer head are just not show dogs...

I don't know if it's normal,, but we have a deer chihuahua, but not deer head, this one is all legs! If I can add a picture of him, I will add one for you to see. His name is chipper, because he has the markings of a Pinto pony! My daughter and I started out with choc. chip, then chip, then we settled on Chipper. He is very prissy, lol, when he stretches, he crosses his legs, when he has to go out, he sort of kneels with his little butt up in the air, I call it praying, lol praying for someone to let him out. His vet. told us to hand him to everyone who came in the house, so he wouldn't be mean when he got old, well we have and if you don't pay any attention to him when you come inside, he thinks they are the enemy. He, thinks he's a pitbull and fearless, all 5 lbs of him, or (you would think by the way he acts) that he knows he is human. He Rules, lol, The whole house! I have shared two camera phone pic's of Chipper at Yahoo 360, my page. When I can capture his unbelievablely long legs, either bowing or stretching, I will post and share them also.

we have had two deer head chihuahuas. one was tan and looked exactly like the taco bell dog and the other is brown and colored kind of like a german shepard. Chihuahuas can be any color.
our brown one's dad was an apple head and we weren't sure how he was going to look but luckily he has the deer head. I think they are so much cuter.
