Depends. If it's *really* awful, to the point of being funny, then I'll probably love it - it's a great conversation piece. Otherwise, it's not worth getting it. I think gift giving is about knowing the person you're giving stuff to, and showing that you know them. It's not about money or whether you get one or not.

It depends on your definition of "awful gift". If it was a disrespectful gift I'd rather receive none. If it was a gift that the giver knew was of no use to me I'd rather receive none (intentionally giving people something that you know they are allergic to for example is not a nice gesture). If it was a non-offending, yet kind of a crappy gift with a nice thought behind it, I'd happily accept it.

It's the thought that counts. What kind of thought was behind the gift is more important to me than the actual gift.

None at all for me. I don't really like to use things unless they're exactly the one I want. I waited 6 years to get the computer I wanted rather than settling for a worse one sooner. With gifts, personally the surprise aspect doesn't really do anything for me. I'd rather you ask me what I want and I tell you. I like sentimental things, like cards and souvenirs and stuff like that, but an awful gift is just not worth the trouble, it'll probably just take up shelf space in my already too-cluttered room.

An bad gift (unless it is meant to be offensive) is better than no gift. At least you have the chance to receive and open the gift, make the gift giver happy when you pretend to like it and, best of all, you know that someone cares enough for you to purchase a gift for you in the first place.

If you talking about Christmas. Its not about the gifts. Its the thought that counts..If the gift is awful say thank you and be happy that they thought of you.

An awful gift. It's the thought that counts.
Also, the gift might be awful to me, but it could be useful to someone else, so I can actually reuse it as someone else's present.

If I get an awful gift, I know the person thought of me, however that was. But if I get no gift, its indicative of no thought, like they're not even on your radar. Acknowledge people.

I do not feel any gift is awful but even if it is something I cannot use, I simple donate it to charity so someone can make use of it.

I prefer to give gifts rather than receive them. I enjoy the look of joy on their face, when they get what they had not been able to attain prior to Christmas.

For me, it is about giving not receiving, so if someone got me a gift that was not my taste, I would smile nicely - thank them, and tuck it away to regift when the perfect person came along.

Just my opinion.
