They need to speak with theri doctor---untying tubes or reconnecting tubes after a vasectomy do not automatically mean that it will be successful, and then all that money is wasted. And at 40 or so the wife is at an advanced maternal age which puts her in the high risk category for genetic abnormalities, down syndrome, multiple babies etc. Not that these things WILL happen but because of the age of the mother there are increased liklihoods of them happening.

The risks for her age include down sydrome. That occurs more often in women over the age of 35. The man will have to have the vesectomy reversed, but many men do that, and you rarely hear of any complications with that being done. A lot of people seem to be waiting until their late 30's even 40's before even starting a family. I wish them all the best, but their DR. can explain all the risks involved for both of them! Good luck. Hope ya get some good answers

Un tying a man is called a vasovasostomy, and pretty much what they do is reattach the two tubes that were cut, and then take a couple of samples of the semen and check it for sperm. Once the doctor is happy, they sew you back up. Healing time is usually 4-6 weeks, and the couple can conceive any time after that. After the age of 40, the chances for miscarriage, Downs Syndrome, and chromosomal abnormalities increases.

There is a high likelihood that the baby could be born with Down Syndrome. It is heightened for any woman over the age of 35.

Pregnancy is very taxing on the human body. Recovery would take longer. But, if they want a child....I say "Go for it!". Have faith that everything will be alright, Im sure it will.
