Okay so I'm currently in the process of breaking up with my boyfriend (don't ask... it's complicated) and I want to buy him a gift but since we've just broken up... Would that be good? or bad? and I also want to get him a new button up shirt just like the one that I borrowed and lost... But should I get him that? And if I do should I get him something else and what should it be?? I'm thinking a ring.... But would that be hinting that I want to get back together or be "friends with priveliges" or something dumb like that?
PLEASE HELP!!

I say sure why not and get him that shirt you lost--that would be nice of you and not at all saying something like you want to get back together. I think the ring might be something a little too "lovey-dovey" or whatever...okay, I don't know why I just said that, but it makes sense to me...I think any jewlery means something always. Anyway, yeah--the shirt is okay, and maybe just get him a gift certificate to an electronics store like Best Buy for the other gift...Good luck and Merry Christmas!!

If you have broken up with him, you should not buy him a gift. That relationship is over. Buying a gift for him would be a bad thing and just confuse him.
If you feel bad about losing the shirt, and it is truly bothering you, buy him the same exact shirt, but do not wrap it or say that it is a gift. Tell him that you are replacing the shirt and you are sorry you lost it. This will probably make him feel bad anyway, so the best bet is to buy him nothing, leave him alone, and concentrate on getting over the lost relationship.

if you're in the process of breaking up with this guy, gifts seem to me to be sending way too many mixed messages. i think you'd be better off taking the scissors and making a clean cut in the string that ties you two together...then after enough time has passed, if you still feel the need to get him some of these things, they can be given to him with a clearer understanding of the rationale behind the gifts. otherwise, he'll just look through any words you choose and claim your gifts were actions that meant you still wanted to be together.

A ring would be odd. If you two are going to still be friends than to get him a present is fine. The shirt sounds like a good idea.

Yes, get him the shirt to make up for the one you lost. Don't get him the ring as that is too intimate and may give him false hope. Get him a gift certificate to one of his favourite stores and let him buy something he wants/needs for himself.

Just get him the shirt but make it clear to him that you are just replacing the one you lost. No ring, that is too personal for someone who is about to become your ex.
