Please don't do it. One of my friends did it and it looks just gross.

The most important thing is to make sure you go to a licensed piercer. Not doing this is asking for problems. They will use a sterile needle and use sterile jewelry. You will need to clean it 1-2 times a day. They have soap you can buy special, and bactine is also very good. At the beginning it will be sore, and may get a little infected- again, cleaning is key. I used hydrogen peroxide (I am allergic to bactine) to clean mine occasionally.
The pain factor isn't bad. If you have had other body piercings, it isn't as painful as cartilage piercing. And they do it quickly- always a plus.
As for the aesthetic of the piercing, don't listen to other people about body size, etc. Do what you want, and do it for yourself. That's the only way you will actually be happy with it. If you decide in a year that you are tired of it, take it out and move on with life. They should run around $40 (although some parlors run "specials" of sorts)- and you can almost think of it as a fun shirt. You get tired of it, it's no huge waste of money.

In the long run, its up to you whether you get it or not. Do it for youself and because you like it, not because someone here said so. Anyway, info about the procedure and aftercare is below.
You will go into the shop and you should be quickly greeted in a friendly fashion, they will check your ID and you will fill out a form. Once you tell them what you would like pierced they should have a separate, closed off room that the piercing will be done in. When you are there, look around: Is it clean, neat and tidy? Because it should be. Any signs of blood, dirt, or anything unusual you can question this or leave.
Once you are seated and as comfortable as possible, you will have your navel cleaned and wiped down to dirt and oils. (While this goes on, they will explain the general procedure and give you a break down of what's going on) The piercer will then mark two dots, one inside the navel one outside, in the event your anatomy is not well suited for the piercing, they *should* tell you and you will either have to get one elsewhere or not at all (this is rare, but still able to happen) You should watch the piercer to make sure they change gloves when needed and be sure they show you all equipment and jewelry in its clean and sterile unopened packaging before they get started.
So with the dot on your navel, they will place a clamp on the area and as they go along, they will explain what they are doing and you are welcome to ask any questions you have while they do it. Once the clamp is in place, the piercer will ask you to take a deep breath in and on the exhale, then they pierce. Generally, you will feel a pinch and few girls feel a horrible amount of pain. Once the needle is in, they slide in a 14g banana barbell/curved barbell with a 1/2" or 3/8" wearable area. During this part, most people feel a slight tingle or sting, but this is nothing overly bad. Keep in mind, piercings are done and over with in seconds, most of the pain that follows comes from the general area being sore for the next week.
Once the piercing is done, they will clean up and give you aftercare instructions and they should also provide you with an aftercare sheet. During this time, as with through out the whole procedure, they should ask you if you have any questions, if you do speak up. If you have questions or concerns once you leave, be sure to call or visit them in person. When you are done, you pay them, thank them and be sure to tip. Cost will vary based on jewelry type and piercer, expect to pay anywhere from $30-60. Any more is a bit high (though price shouldn't determine quality and competence of a piercer)
Avoid tight clothing, sleeping on your stomach, try not to apply unneeded pressure to the area and do not play with the piercing. Only touch in when you plan to clean it and wash your hands before you clean it. Be careful with it overall. Its a wound, treat it well.
Finally, be sure you are cleaning the jewelry well and correctly. This means that twice daily you are to wash the area with warm water, use a clean q-tip to remove any buildup or crust. Rinse the area well and pat dry with a disposable paper towel. After this you are to use sea salt soaks two or three times daily. Basically you will need to get non iodized sea salt and mix it with warm water to make a solution that tastes like tears (generally 1/2-3/4 teaspoon per cup of water). Use a shot glass (held over your navel) or a saturated cotton ball to soak the area for 10-15 minutes. Healing takes an average of 6-12 months.
Avoid rubbing alcohol, peroxide, Epsom salt, Bactine, neosporin and other harsh cleaners. These will all dry out the skin, kill helpful bacteria and cause excess irritation and pain.
Hope that answered everything. Good luck.

Yes, i think you should do it, but it's all up to you. Only do it if you really want it done. I have had mine for about 8 months and i love it. If you get it done make sure you clean it with a antibacterial soap and make sure it is the liquid type and not the bar because if you use the bar it may get infected because things stick to bar soap like hair, lint, fuzz, etc. and it carries germs from other people touching it. I recommend using the dial antibacterial liquid soap. After you clean it once a day put neosporin around it. Make sure you move it up and down everyday too. I didn't think it hurt and i was very nervous and it only take a few mins. Very quick procedure unlike a tatoo. One more thing you want to keep it in a while before changing belly rings and when you do get new belly rings make sure you sterlize them in boiling water. Hope this helps and good luck. Just remember to stay calm when you go and have it done.

Luckily, belly button piercings are not noticeable if you don't want them to be. They take longer to heal, and put you at the risk of infection, but if you take care of it and you're fine with a bit of pain, it should be fine for you. Just go somewhere licensed. Some people think it's cute, some think it's trashy, realize that people will get a different first impression, and this could go either way, of you when they see you with a belly button ring.

Please dont get your belly button peirced. They take a long time to heal and in a couple years they will go out of style. People might call you a s***too. I want to get one, but there is a good chance it will get infected and that i will go out of style and you will regret it. Just wear a belly top and you will look cute without the chance of people calling you a s*** or something if you wear a belly top with a belly button peicing. You will have a time wear you will regret the peicing. Instead, just add some more peicings to your ears, where peicings belong. How many clebrities or models have there belly button peirced? Not a ton. So dont get it peirced. Save yourself the pain, the money, and the regrets.

OK i was debating it for years and i had to basically get my bf to drag me in there, i new it was going to hurt but i wanted it done.
OK what they do is this:
you walk in and they put dots in you where the ball is going to sit
you lay down and the clean it up
then they take a clamp thing and grab it
then they put a needle in from top (head) to bottom (feet)
then they get the bar put it on the bottom and drag it through
take off the clamp thing and sit there for a min the attach the ball
it sounds scary but its not, i swore a little but 6 months later I'm not regretting it
it looks very pretty and best of all the boys like it...
good luck... go and have it done its great.

you should do it! just be careful what you wear a few weeks after you get it, if you wear tight shirts its going to most likey cause an infection cause it can't breathe. I did mine myself about 10 years ago and once i got pregnant took it out and re-pierced it and it has lasted. It isn't that painful either, unless you get an infection. Just watch for it starting to crust or pus, i know it sounds gross but it if happens you may need to take it out or get some neosporin for it and apply it. Also, go buy some ear piercing solution and use it every day on it - it will help aid the healing process :]

I relatively have mine pierced 4 cases. as quickly as on the ideal, as quickly as on the backside, and one on the two edge. i've got had them keen on 3 or 4 years, and that i've got in no way had a single situation with any of them. as long as you preserve on with the after-care training given to you thru your piercer, you are going to be ok! Mine all took approximately 8 or 9 months to heal thoroughly. (I replaced the jewellery after approximately 6 months, and each thing went fantastic. It took some extra months till i could take the jewellery out without the hollow growing to be close.) in case you have the different questions, be at liberty to e mail me! :)
