Because prayer is not about a position. If you that you need to prostrate yourself in humility before Gos when you pray, then you should. But prayer is about us talking to God, not what position we are in when we do it.

As the original and authentic Christians Catholics do because God is not our equal so we show reverence to God by bowing, kneeling and yes prostrating on the ground before him.

Sometimes prayer is done standing with hands reaching outward.

My friend just as in Islam and Judaism, Christianity has its divisions from which believers have lost the orthodoxy of the faith and have made exception for why they do not prostrate or kneel but not in Catholicism.

Luke18:13)He spoke of standing in prayer.(Mark11:25).The apostle Paul "kneeled down" with the Elders of Ephesus.(Acts20:36)

The Eastern Orthodox do it quite often. Roman and other Catholics, as well.

In Orthodoxy it's called "The Great Prostration".
