Try laying a wet hot rag or towel on your eyes and lay down. I usually do this and take some tylanol but it might work without it. Also you could try soaking in a hot bath with the lights down low or even off if possible. This sometimes helps too. I hope you feel better soon though.

Here is a thought soak your head under the tub faucet getting it as hot as you can stand it, now this part sucks but it helps a ton. After you are at the hottest point, immediately switch off all hot water and blast the cold keeping head submerged in the freezing water After about thirty seconds remove head and dry. Lay down in dark, quiet room and rest for a few hours and you will be okay. I get Death headaches from a brain infection and the rationale behind this treatment is that many headaches are vascular in nature, i.e. migraines. The hot water and migraine keeps those vessels wide open and thus keep that pounding, pulsing headache continue with blood shooting through your head, then suddenly a deluge of ice water smacks your head causing all blood vessels to immediately constrict, there by stopping the pounding, thumping headache in its tracks. This is only a temporary fix and must be followed by dark, quiet and rest. I take heavy medication for headaches but in certain situations I will use this technique learned more than 13 years ago.

Headaches are caused by many things, but the simplest thing to do is to drink more water, the standard 8 x 8oz glasses per day for example. Properly hydrating your body works "wonders".

The Mayo Clinic has a great headache resource along with some self-care suggestions. Here is a quick excerpt for you and I hope this helps:

Make healthy lifestyle choices

The same lifestyle choices that promote good health may reduce the frequency and severity of your headaches. Consider the basics:

* Eat healthy foods. Don't skip meals — especially breakfast.
* Exercise regularly. During physical activity, your body releases certain chemicals that block pain signals to your brain. If your doctor agrees, choose any exercise you enjoy. Walking, swimming and cycling are often good choices. But it's important to start slowly. Exercising too vigorously can trigger some types of headaches.
* Get enough sleep. Wake up and go to bed at the same time every day — even on weekends. Relax before you go to bed. If you don't fall asleep within 15 minutes, get up. Read or do another quiet activity until you become drowsy. Keep in mind that medications that contain caffeine or other stimulants, including some headache medications, may interfere with sleep.
* Avoid excess caffeine. Sometimes caffeine helps curb headaches. In fact, many headache medications contain caffeine. But heavy daily caffeine use — more than 600 milligrams of caffeine a day, or about four to seven cups of coffee — can cause headaches and irritability.

Keep stress under control

Stress and headaches often go hand in hand. To reduce stress, try these simple tips:

* Simplify your life. Rather than looking for ways to squeeze more activities or chores into the day, find a way to leave some things out.
* Manage your time wisely. Update your to-do list every day — both at work and at home. Delegate what you can, and break large projects into manageable chunks.
* Take a break. If you feel overwhelmed, a few slow stretches or a quick walk may renew your energy for the task at hand.
* Adjust your attitude. Stay positive. If you find yourself thinking, "This can't be done," switch gears. Think instead, "This will be tough. But I can make it work."
* Let go. Don't worry about things you can't control.

Ease muscle tension

Muscle tension can trigger headaches. If you're feeling tense, apply heat or ice to soothe sore neck and shoulder muscles. Use a heating pad set on low, a hot-water bottle, a warm compress or a hot towel. A hot bath or shower may help, too. If you'd rather use ice, wrap the ice pack in a cloth to protect your skin.

Massage also can relieve muscle tension — and sometimes headache pain. Gently massage your temples, scalp, neck and shoulders with your fingertips. Or ask someone else to do the honors.
Relax

Take time to unwind every day. Try this deep-breathing exercise:

* Lie down on your back or sit comfortably with your feet flat on the floor.
* Rest one hand on your abdomen and one hand on your chest. This will help you feel the natural movements of your breathing.
* Inhale through your nose or mouth while pushing out your abdominal muscles.
* Slowly exhale while gently relaxing your abdomen.
* Repeat the cycle several times.

It also may help to consciously relax your muscles, one group at a time. When you're done, sit quietly for a minute or two.

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

Check at the base of the skull.. if you find considerable tenderness there, would indicate what is predisposing you to headache problems. Would indicate you need to see a doctor of Chiropractic asap. This is their specialty along with low back pain. You will find your head is restricted from going to one side when compared to the other also. Indicating a rather chronic condition which becomes acute when the inflammatory process has advanced.
