I call them Mum or Dad. But in the presence of my Mum or Dad I use proper names cause it can get a What? from 2 Mums when calling her Mum.

It makes the inlaws feel good when you call them Mum or Dad too.

Being Chinese, it would be totally inappropriate to call in-laws by their names, however being a Brit too, I can understand the awkwardness in calling an in-law mum or dad. The way I have done it, my husband calls his parents the equivalent of mama and papa and so I do the same. I call my mum the equivalent of mummy but hubby calls her mum.

I find it easier to say Sheila and Roy. I would feel silly saying Mum or Dad! I think it depends on what you're all comfortable with. I suppose you'd get used to it if you did it for long enough!

It depends on your relationship with them. If you are close you can call them mum and dad, if you are close but in a friendly way then their own or nick names is fine..
Why don't you call them mum and dad hen your'e serious talking and nick names when in general
Seems like a happy medium

I would never call my in laws mum or dad, I have only one mum and dad and that is their special names, the in laws would never reach my standards of being my "mum or dad". I call her Mrs C, she tells me to call her Daphne (I'd rather not!) I use that or their real names.

I've been married twice and have only ever called the in-laws by their names. I don't think I'd like my husband calling my dad, "dad!" Only my brothers should do that!!!

My parents and uncle and aunts call their in laws mom and dad. I believe it is more respectful. I myself, wouldn't want to be called by name from my grandchildren or son in laws if I was them.

Would prefer to call them by their name as I would feel hypocratical calling anyone other than my real parents mum and dad :)

I basically wish i might desire to have my significant other's mom and significant other's father to call them Mama and Baba......My husband's parents are the two deceased. yet as quickly as I used thus far any of my exes....i might consistently call their parents mom and pa. yet it is basically me. I felt weird and wonderful calling them via their first names or perhaps calling them Mr or Mrs. even though their final call replaced into. So I basically referred to as them even though my ex referred to as them via. lol They under no circumstances complained.
