They want you to use more shampoo so that you'll have to buy more sooner.

If you really want your hair to be super-clean it does take washing it twice. Sometimes lathering it twice every day leaves it far too soft for most people to be able to do anything with it; so a lot of people only lather it once; but if you really want to get all the hairspray and whatever else off it lathering twice is what you do need.

If you lather twice you'll usually notice that is particularly squeaky and clean feeling, while lathering it once makes it look clean but doesn't make it quite so squeaky clean. It really does feel healthier if you get all the built up **** off it.

I've never seen one say "shampoo one, condition, repeat". Maybe you have some kind of different shampoo or conditioner. Usually shampoos say, "Lather well. Rinse. Repeat." Conditioners usually have labels that say something like, "Shampoo. Rinse. Apply x amount of conditioner. Rinse."

I wash and condition my hair one time and it always comes out squeaky clean and shiny; maybe once in my life it was so dirty it took a second wash to get it clean because I have long, thick hair.
Call the 800 # on the bottle and put their "adviser" on the spot and ask them why it they suggest "rinse and repeat" ; it really does seem like they just want you to use more of it and buy it more frequently to me. That is a good question, tho, it sure has been on most shampoo bottles forever!

I agree with you -- it´s way too many chemicals! Unless you have really greasy hair, which I don´t think you have or else you wouldn´t be asking this question, shampoo your hair once and then use the conditioner.

When you shampoo, massage your scalp to help circulate the blood flow. Then, leave the shampoo on your scalp for a couple of minutes before rinsing.

When you condition your hair, don´t put any on your scalp, because it´s bad for your hair follicles.

When you shampoo and it does not lather up(get all bubbly) very well that means you need to repeat. you see there are surfactants in shampoo that suck up oil, dirt, residue that you build up on your hair, if you have pretty oily/dirty hair then your gonna need more shampoo to get it all. its like when you go to a gas station and some idiot spills gas EVERYWHERE then you see that "stuff" they put on it, sure it soaks up most of it, but it can only hold so much, so you need to lay down some more. sorry to go off on this simple question, its only because you have no idea how many people there are that have thick hair who should always shampoo twice, that don't so when they sit I'm my chair i get to enjoy the stench of dirty hair, that could have been avoided if they only read the "directions" on there shampoo bottles.

They say that for two reasons:
1) shampoo companies are in the business of selling shampoo - the more you use, the sooner it's gone and you need to buy more = more money for them; and
2) to make sure your hair is clean. Some times it takes 2 washes to get out all the oil, dirt and or chemicals we put in
our hair.

I'm a hairstylist. I attended a Paul Mitchell School and the reason this is on most bottles is that the product is lower quality. The only reason you need to repeat the shampooing process is if you feel like you need to. It is not a necessity. Hope this helps!

The problem with that whole thing, as I see it, is this: What in God's name do they want me to repeat?? And what does repeating have to do with anything??? This has always bugged me and has caused me to lose a lot of hair.
Sometimes I rinse and repeat, and sometimes I repeat and rinse, and sometimes I do both at once; and the whole ritual is so freaking absurd !!!!

It's both the desire of shampoo makers to sell more shampoo, true, but it's also probably a historical artifiact from when people didn't bathe more than once a week - if you're hair's really filthy, one small glob of shampoo won't get everything. If you wash your hair daily (or even every other day) you probably don't need to shampoo twice.

I think because some people can't get all the oils and dirt out in the first washing, so you have to "repeat."

Or you can just save on shampoo by skipping the repeat. Your choice.
