I think it would depend on the dentist and what he or she uses. I think some are the cat-gut stitches and the other's are the silk sutures which don't dissolve but non the less - they don't hurt when taken out - just a small pinch if any.

No, many dentists use Silk Sutures, which are not resorbable.

I use silk sutures in my office because they work well for me.

So if you had stitches placed, you should find out what type they are because if they are silk and not resorbable, then you will need to go back and have them gently removed, which is an easy apppointment.

some will use the dissolve stitches but some use use the kind that have to be removed by cutting them.
