You may need professional assistance. Often these symptoms mean your computer had caught a virus or some such, but it is also possible that a system file has become corrupted.

Do you have anti-virus software and is it up to date?

Do you have antispyware software, is it up to date, and have you run it?

Can you boot into safe mode? (press F8 repeatedly while booting to get menu) Also note "Boot last known good configuration"

If you download Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3 and have IE7 Beta 1 or 2, you will be asked to uninstall 1 or 2 before installing 3. Easy as 1, 2, 3, right?

Wrong. You cannot uninstall the older IE7. You will notice that it remains installed and think nothing of it, because it's Microsoft.

Unfortunately, when you restart, explorer will not.

You will be notified of two missing files, Normaliz.dll and iertutil.dll.

Don't freak out. Here's what you do:

1. Open Task Manager (ctrl+shift+esc).
2. Find IE7 Beta 3 and run it.
3. It will begin, but Windows will not validate. Leave the install open.
4. Return to Task Manager and browse to the root of your C: drive.
5. Click inside the strange folder with a long string of letters and numbers.
6. Select the option to see All Files.
7. Find iertutil.dll and copy it.
8. Go to C:\\WINDOWS\system32 and paste.
9. Go back.
10. Find Normaliz.dll and copy it.
11. Return to ..\system32 and paste again.
12. Return to the IE7 Beta 3 setup and tell it to continue. This time, Windows will validate and IE will install.

To get your damn desktop back, return to Task Manager and run explorer.

If you used Add/Remove programs to uninstall IE 7, then IE 6 would have been reinstalled automaticly.

Nothing else needed to be done.

Further, for your issue it is likely all that was needed was a temporary change in the User Agent String: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9517db9c-3c0d-47fe-bd04-fad82a9aac9f&displaylang=en

For your issue, try (with the SFC /Scannow option enabled) the Ramesh, MS-MVP IEFix Utility: http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/IEFIX.htm

If you used any other method than Add/Remove to uninstall IE 7 please advise.

Here's the problem and the fix.

Just a word of advice; don't be the first person on the block to download new Microsoft programs.

I wait anywhere from six months to a year.
I lived without up until now I can manage for a while longer. I can almost guarantee IE7 won't be on my system for at least a year.

Try these links:

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?iertutil

File seems to be associated with IE7.0

Download it from:
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/pop.php?iertutil

Place it in:
C:/Windows/system32/

If it still doesn't work, you may need to download normaliz.dll as well.
