Ticks don't sting, they bite. And no, you can't get it from just touching a tick. One actually has to bite you. But this doesn't mean that all ticks can infect you. Oh, it's spelled Lyme Disease, not "lime" disease. It's generally associated with at least two tick species in the US: the black legged tick on the east coast, and the western black legged tick on the west coast. The deer tick may also harbor the bacteria which causes the disease. All of these species are smaller than the American dog tick which isn't believed to carry the bacteria. It's difficult to tell if you have a tick on you, not only because of its small size, but also because you can't feel the bite. If you think you've been infected you should seek help right away because the disease becomes progressively worse if left untreated. Take care.

You have to actually be bitten by a tick that has the lime disease. The tick will be imbedded in your skin. Not all ticks have the disease. You can only get the disease if the tick has it.

A tick will latch onto the skin with a painless bite. Then it feeds on the blood. When it sucks the blood, it feels heavier so it pushes water out of its mouth in order to lower its weight. If it is carrying the bacteria called spirochetes, it can then spit the germ into you and cause Lyme disease.
