Any ideas for a 50's style wedding? I already have the dress...I'm talking about wedding favors, activities (other than dancing - we (and our families) don't dance so we're not having any), invitations, decorations ect. I'd also like to keep this fairly cheap, so affordable ideas would be appreciated!

I also want a 50's style wedding..whenever that happens. I always thought the Vintage green coca cola glasses would be a cute favor. The ones that are wider at the top. I know they have miniature versions of them out there somewhere as well. Inside you could put a small brown candle or you could even have your names and wedding date put on them. Invitations - get your favorite Norman Rockwell picture from the 50's and use it as a watermark on your invitation. Activities don't have to be based on the fifties so much. We don't dance at our weddings either. Instead, we put a slide show together for both bride and groom from birth to the day of. A projector and screen can be rented...just make sure you get a big one depending on how many people will be there. You could also ask your guests instead of clinking glasses, each table has to come up with a poem or story of the bride or groom to get what they want. Then they read it to the entire room..sometimes can be very embarrassing, but we were surprised when one table got up at my sister's wedding and sang their poem in perfect harmony!

How exciting! :)
I would love to have a retro wedding.

*favors*

handmade retro fabric sachets filled with herbs or potpourri
homemade jam with retro fabric labels
ann taintor magnets (see anntaintor.com)
"a measure of love" measuring spoon sets

*activities*

hang different retro fabrics over a clothesline or between trees, and use them as a backdrop for guest photos

wish tree: spray paint a large branch a fun, retro color, then have guests write out their wishes on cards and hang them on the tree with ribbon
(a small potted lemon tree would be very retro too, depending on your colors)

*invitations*

find a fun, retro fabric pattern and use it in the invitations to introduce the theme and wedding colors

invite the guests to dress in 50s style

have 50s themed photos made of you and your fiance to use in the invitations

*decorations*

retro fabric tablecloths

assorted, mismatched 50s dishes found at thriftstores and Ebay, mixed with affordable pieces from Ikea and Target

drinks poured from 50s pitchers

*miscellaneous*

do you have any favorite 50s movies to draw inspiration from?

play 50s music through speakers and an ipod during your reception

*picnic theme*

have a picnic-themed daytime wedding, complete with red and white checked tablecloths, picnic baskets, cherry pie, etc.
wear an apron during the reception--there are some cute ones now!

serve lemonade drinks and finger food, cherry pie, and ice cream

*I hate dancing. I wish I didn't have to dance at my wedding. :(

*This was fun! Best of luck to you.

Cheap?
Marry at a church with just a tux & plain wedding dress. Keep the number of people minimum (usually close family members) and send invitation cards by email. In stead of having catering services, have people bring a dish like a pot luck party.

However, it looks so cheap I will not recommend.
