I went to their website and filled out an application for auto insurance. The quote they gave me was twice what I am currently paying. I know that sounds like an exaggeration, but it's the truth.

They have every right to charge as much as they want, but I think it's very unethical to keep advertising that it's very easy to save money with Geico. That appears to be a flat-out lie. I guess they spend too much money on their advertising budget to have cheap premiums.

You raise several good points, but you could certainly do so in a less offensive way.

I realize that there is no guarantee that every single person who uses Geico will save money and maybe there was a mistake, but I'm not going to waste any more of my time trying to call Geico and to find out that there probably wasn't.

I am using common sense. Are you? If my Geico quote was 2 times what Farmers Insurance is charging me for the same coverage how can you expect that most people are going to pay much less? Common sense please.

The point of their gecko ads very clearly is that saving money is as easy as "standing up". Their gecko implies that we're behaving absurdly if we don't give them a call to save money. Well if it was really that easy and as automatic as he implies my quote wouldn't have been 2X Farmers' quote.

For crying out loud, Chris! Their ads are misleading.

To Chris:

You clearly came in here with a chip on your shoulder. You told me I wasn't using "common sense". You didn't post here to answer a question. You came in here to vent. To quote you: "For crying out loud!" I wish I could choose the worst answer, too, because you would win hands down.

Well it's not a guarantee that every single person who calls will save money. Have you ever heard of the concept of "on average"? It's not false advertising and it's not a lie. You could pick up the phone and call a sales counselor there in case something was missed with the online quote and see if there's any other option for you.

I have GEICO, and I got a quote from another company who claims the same thing, and this other company was more. Please, use common sense. Insurance companies can't give everyone who calls a lower rate. If they rated the policy poorly and didn't charge the right amount they would probably lose money. For crying out loud!

addition:

Every ad is misleading according to your logic. Do you get the tongue in cheek humor of the ads at all? I sympathize with your plight but I previously encouraged you to give them a call in case there was something that didn't go quite right or wasn't collected on the online quote. You know, it's not like you had anything riding on gettiing this quote. If you got a higher quote, then you move on, right? Accept it and stay with Farmers. I'm not sure what else to tell you, except that. Sorry you feel the way you do, you clearly wanted to vent and not ask a question.

I too have filled out a quote with Geico and it was cheaper, but only by about 5 bucks. Not enough for me to go through the trouble of switching companies anyway. I have Farm Bureau insurance and am very satisfied.

By the way, most insurance company ads are full of crap anyway. Especially Allstate, Progressive and Nationwide, they have some of the highest rates I've ever seen. I work in insurance, and have dealt with all these companies at some point in claims situations. Trust me, Farm Bureau or State Farm are the best choices for insurance.

And Geico is a real pain in the *ss when it comes to claims. The only good thing I can say about them is that their gecko is cute.

I switched to Geico for about six months. They were slightly lower than what I was paying. The reason I left them after six month was they canceled me every month. I'm in the Navy, live in Wa and had a MI license at the time. My license was expired, but because I'm in the military and not in Mi, my license was still good. Geico apparently can't be bothered with checking on the laws of states and canceled me every month. I finally got tired of calling every month so that they could do the same thing they did last month. Apparently I'm in the other 2 percent that is not satisfied with Geico.

All claim to have the best value. I did have GEICO for several years, but when I moved to Michigan it more than doubled. Michigan has a different system than most states (no-fault).
Check out as many as you can before you pay money.

I would advise looking for new insurance while you already have it. My agent told me that I got a discount because I showed responsibility by not waiting until my old insurance expired.

I have an auto blog and there are no progressive or geico on it even though I have access to them. How do you think they pay for all those big commercial campaigns. I offer the kind that give real multiple quotes at once so you can compare yourself. Not the fake ones those other companies put along side their one and only choice.

My insurance dropped a lot with Geico, almost half. I quit Progressive because their rates increased 37.5% after the first six months. Been with Geico happily 18 months. I guess it all just depends.

I have used GEICO for many years. I thought I was getting a good price (I also work for the Gov't so I think they give a discount too). I guess it's worth a look around after your experience. God Luck...getting car insurance is no fun.

Yes, I have incredibly low rates with Geico, and they have exceptional service and a self-serve website, and if you need to make a change, you can do it right on the website. I highly recommend it...I live in Pa, so I don't know how it is everywhere else...

Don't buy insurance from a website. Buy it from an agent so that you have someone in your corner. An agent is a professional that is looking out for your best interest, and if you use an independent, they will shop your rates for you if you ask.
