If intelligent beings like us are too extraordinary to happen "by chance" (or, perhaps, through the opposite of chance -- natural section), then... isn't God intelligent? And did he happen by chance?

Because humans are so intelligent, humans crated God. Humans have a thirst for knowledge, especially the question "Where did we all come from."

Not that I'm not spiritual. I believe the concept of God is a spirit among all of us. The glue that binds mankind together. The spirit of God is in all of us.

We have the mystery of existence and First Cause, regardless of whether God is in or not. IF we go with Intelligent Design, then the theory fails on the complexity premise because we're left with failing to explain the complexity of God (which you point out). If we take God out, we're still left with some beginningless eternal thing (process, whatever) that has always existed and somehow contained the very process that results in a universe with sentient beings. I'm atheistic but in awe of this because I've been thinking about this for decades (ever since I was a kid) and I realized the implications of this. My friend, who is also an atheist, thought he had the issue resolved by resorting to science and taking god out and relying on both quantum physics and the cosmology of an endless cycle of universe creation/destruction. When I brought him to contemplating the implications of something -- process, whatever -- always existing, he suddenly realized what I was getting at and was kinda scared to go there. I don't blame him but he did realize the enormity and the complexity of the issue at that point.

I was thinking the same thing today lol I think "god" or "gods" have been around since man could think and create. We need a "god" to save us from death and from making wrong decisions etc. He is like a comfort zone because humans really don't know where the universe came from and this scares us. Notice in the bible they don't mention anything about dinosaurs?! Humans are learning so much that one day, hopefully there will be no need for a "god" or maybe we will find out that there is one or many lol Who knows. :)

If there was a God, then there would be only ONE God that everyone would agree with. There are too many Gods such as Christains, Muslims, Jews...ect...to name a few...They all have different beliefs...

Therefore...I am not saying I don't believe in God, it is a hard situation...basically, it is everyone's opinion on God. Only, I keep my God to myself...I don't go throwing a big fit over who's God is right...or wrong. Like these Muslims in Iraq and Afaganastan...with the Koran religious crap. If there was REALLY a God...then God would not accept the Koran religious (the killings, beheadings and suicide bombers.).

God was and always will be.
is it possible that a fully assembled Pocket watch would happen by chance wash up on a shore line? No. How much more complex are humans? I read to have this happen was like 10 to the 10billionth power. I don't have THAT much faith.

Some suggest god is not a being at all – but a set of laws that govern the universe.

My parents taught that it isnt good to question things like that, but i cant help but to wonder either. If god created us, how was he created. What my parents told me was that he was just always there. I really dont think any1 knows for sure though.
