Yah gross question, but I'm pretty down and out these days financially so I think I can resolve this on my own. I've had it for about 2 weeks, but it went away for a few days. I'm thinking it's hemroids or palypes(spelling). Can I just drink ensure or eat soup to resolve the issues? The blood is on the brighter side which I have researched means that it's not from my colon or higher up in my intestines. I can feel that there is something closer towards the end. I don't have health insurance so I think I can just resolve this by eating less solids.

No I can't see anything coming out of my butt. It's definitely inside of me. Also, I'm not gay so I don't have anal sex FYI.

Thanks everyone for giving me your input..really good answers here. I'm 29, and I've been increasing my fiber the last few weeks. Not sure also if it has something to do with doing an herbal cleanse.

Hello:
You are mostly correct when you describe the blood as being bright red meaning it is not from the stomach or small intestine, however, blood from a lesion in the colon can present as bright red too. It depends on your age too. If you are young, and you feel a lump in or around your rectum, it probably is a hemorrhoid. There are two kinds of hemorrhoids, internal and external. Internal hemorroids are completely painless and external ones are very painful, but both can bleed.
Eating soup or drinking ensure will have no effect on it. If it is a hemorrhoid, then increasing the amount of water you drink and increasing the fiber in your diet will definately help.
I can understand that you have no insurance but any time there is blood from the rectum it MUST be evaluated by a doctor.
You can try going to your local Public Health Department for free and have what is called an "anoscope" done which simply looks up into the rectum about 4 inches. They would be able to tell right away if you have a hemorroid of either type.
It could be an anal fissure which bleeds too.
And you are right about it possibly being a polyp however they are more common in older people and usually higher up than you can feel with your finger.
I would be on the safe side and have it evaluated by a physician.
Rare as it can be at a young age, you wouldnt want to miss rectal carcinoma (cancer). Maybe a doctor could have you pay ten dollars a month until the bill is paid or like i said go to the Public Health Department for free.
I hope this helped.
Regards,
Warren Shaffer, M.D.

Careful... you don't want to let your health go because of money. What is more important?

You are right, bright blood usually is not indicative of deeper colon issues like polyps (which are pre-cancerous lesions). If you feel your anus does it feel like there is swelling there? look at the area in the mirror and you may be able to see hemmerhoids that are enlarged and bulging out of the anus. You may also have fissures (little cuts) around the anus. Often these occur because of too little fiber in the diet. A proper bowel movement should not need to be forced or pushed, should have a toothpaste -like texture and you should be going at least once a day (2-3 x is ideal). Add some fiber to your diet in the form of fruit and veggies or psyllium hulls (available at health food stores) and have rolled oats for breakfast. You should work up to 40-50 g of fiber per day and of course lots of water with that fiber (2-3 litres per day). An aloe juice is also very soothing for the colon and is a mild laxative to help loosen stool.

A great natural remedy for hemerrhoids is a piece of potato. Cut out a smooth (tampon-shaped) piece of potato (no skin) and gently insert it into the opening of the anus (not all the way) This will help to encourage the enlarged veins to go back into the anus if they are coming out and the chemical consituents of a potato are soothing a cooling.

Good Luck, but remember that colon cancer is the number one killer of men and women in North America and is very preventable. Don't wait too long before you get medical help.

More than likely hemorrhoids.
Tomato soup and Ensure are ok but all in all you need more water in your diet so it will help make your stools alittle softer and easier to pass.
Eat some fruits regularly and perhaps even some prune juice.
Prune juice will help with elimination if you need to eliminate and will only soften your stool if you do not need to eliminate.
Green and yellow vegetables will help esp.if they are fresh.
I agree that if you should notice that the blood is of the "gushing" nature then you should see your Dr. immediately.
Men tend to have more hemmorhoids than women not only because of the straining of elimination but because of lifting heavy objects.

I would think that eating liquids only would make the problem worse, since that could cause diarrhea and burning. Maybe you could try hemmoroid cream and see if it works, but if the bleeding continues, I would suggest seeing a doctor. It's worth a few hundred bucks to save your life.

If you see red blood, then it's probably hemorrhoids or possibly a tear in the very end of the rectum or anus. I would still see a doctor if it has been two weeks, it might be something else.

Stop wasting your money on ensure it does not replace food.go to to the doctors now, money is of no use when your dead. You didn't say your age but if you are over 40 it could be bowel cancer, this is treatable if caught early enough or you could take your chances.

I think you're right it does sound like hemorrhoids. Try using some stool softeners (not laxatives) and trying not to strain when you have a bowel movement. The tux pads or hemorrhoid creams will help shrink them.

First of all, EW.

Second, if it's hemmorhoids, try Preparation H or something. If it's just light streaking, that's probably what it is. But if your actually gushing, suck it up and see a doc. You could have a serious colon problem.

Ew.

do you want to get better, or keep crapping blood? borrow money, and go to the doctor. if it's serious, then you might be able to catch it before it gets worse. find a job that gives you health insurance. it's not safe to not have it. if you don't eat solids, you'll just be pooping more.
