I don't usually take sleeping pills (one other time in my life,) but I've been sick and didn't sleep well the night before, so I figured I'd help recovery if I got a good night's sleep. I can't say how it would've gone if I had relied on natural forces, but the nightmares are uncommon, as was their vividness. I even called out while sleeping "No! No!"
btw, I'm starting to feel better - thanks.

Yes, I was feverish yesterday. The brand is "Sleepinal" and it contains 50 mg of Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride "the sleep ingredient doctor's recommend most!"
ROFL!

I've had similar experiences as well. I didn't have vivid nightmares, but the dreams I had were strange. I went through a stressful time a year or so ago and was prescribed Ambien to help me sleep. The sleep wasn't horribly sound, and the dreams were strange. I was in a car wreck about 5 years ago and the Dr. prescribed Lorcet for pain. It gave me freaky dreams as well a kind of floaty sleepy feeling.
I guess there's no substitute for just plain old natural sleep.
Peace.

Diphenhydramine is the active ingredient also contained in Benadryl and other antihistamines. Most of the drugs in this class have what are called "CNS" effects. The drowsiness commonly experienced by allergy patients taking this drug is often exploited in other over-the-counter sleep aids. However, many patients report that they feel restless at night and have vivid dreams which seem to disturb their sleep patterns more than help them after taking diphenhydramine. Thus, the effects that you experienced are rather common and it is likely that diphenhydramine will not be a good choice for you in the future. However, I hear reading pharmacy textbooks is just the thing to put you right to sleep =)

I also had been ill and took a sleeping pill. I never dream and that night, all night I had terrible dreams. The next day I couldn,t help wondering where in my mind those thoughts had been hiding. I waited a few weeks when I was feeling really good and tried again and still had the nightmares. So I guess there are some of us that can't take sleeping pills. Good Luck to you.

I think that just happens to people. I took my first one last year and I had the worst dreams of my entire life. I woke up in a cold sweat crying. I wouldn't try them again so I'm not sure if it'll happen all the time or every once and a while but considering it happened to me, I know it happens.
Glad you're feeling better! Next time settle for a cup of tea and some heavy medication.

some pills have an opposite affect on people, but your fever could of went so high you may have been hallucinating, which is common with high fevers. You probably would have been better off taking Motrin and missing the sleep as to not of missing the next dose of Motrin. If you aver this ill again monitor your temp frequently and take allot of fluids. When you temp seems like its going to start peeking again ,you can overlap the Motrin so as the last dose wears off the next can take over.

Yes. They effect different people different ways. I know a lot of people who take sleeping pills. We all take Ambien. I have no problem with it. My sis did and sleepwalked and had vivid dreams. A friend did and hallucinated. Another friend did and had very vivid dreams. Boyfriend did and did not even work on him.

Ahhhh Diphenhydramine... It makes me fall asleep initially, but then I wake up about every two hours and have very restless sleep. All drugs affect people differently. It's good to hear you don't have to take something regularly for sleep. I take something prescribed by my doctor every night.

Sleeping pills are generally used to help get you to sleep, not sleep well. As for the dreams part, I take sleeping pills and don't notice any changes in my dreams.

Well, my doctorate isn't in medicine, and you didn't say what it was that you took, but, yes, in my own experience, it is common.
If I take benadryl two nights in a row to sleep, I'll have bad dreams the second night, guaranteed.
