You're right. We had the high moral ground, and we did the wrong thing by aimlessly invading Iraq. The Christians of america should be angry 'cause they're not being represented by our government.

The idea of turning the other cheek has to do with minor offenses in your day to day personal life. It has nothing to do with attacks on your country where thousands of lives are lost. That's like saying to the attackers, " That's okay we forgive you, you can come and kill some more if you want". People can't keep just picking out small phrases in the Bible then applying them to every situation. The phrases " turn the other cheek" and "thou shall not kill" have nothing to do with war.

Turning the other cheek is an individual command. Government, on the other hand, has the obligation to protect it's citizens.
Romans 13:3-4
3 For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same; 4 for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath upon the one who practices evil.

For the Gov't to ignore attacks against it and it's citizens would be to violate the very purpose for which God established it.

There are many people who profit from the hate. the same people who tell you what to think. the same very few people who own the corporations that own the news media.
They want the war drums drumming they don't want peace to break out. There is no profit in peace for them.
The only answer is love. The truth is most Muslims are peacefully people who love peace. You wont hear about them. If peace breaks out they will lose billions.
The only answer is Love. If we are to be Christians then we should be willing to die as Christians that means to forgive them. If we show that we are true to our beliefs if we act as Christians and refuse to elect politicians who GIVE helicopters to men like Saddam Husein so that he can gas Muslim babies Like Ronald Reagen did... Only when we start to act like Christians and stop supporting the dictators who oppress the people with guns and torture. Only when we refuse to use torture. Then we will begin to heal. If we pretend to be christian and not care about the poorest people on earth then there will never be peace. If our government policy is to protect multi national companies like Nestle and Coka cola who exploit and steal from people in the third world. As long as they watch there children starve. then there will be no peace. Its our Job to change the logs in our eyes then they will change the logs in there's.
Jesus didnt come here and tell people what they wanted to hear He didnt have a nice cozy message for the pharisees. He came and told the truth. the truth is they are the poor. We need to change or it will never stop.

Would turning the other cheek be by not hating Islamic believers? Not constantly expecting every person of Muslim faith or Somali ethinicity to be the next Osama Bin Laden? Would we not be turning the cheek by loving them as Jesus loved his enemies.

God is the ultimate judge. However, If we give up the capacity to punish criminals, or to somehow prevent repeat offending, then we will have chaos and that is against God's will.

If we can find it in ourselves to forgive, then we will benefit from not having anger, etc, festering in our hearts. This does not mean we don't want to see some kind of justice done.

No we don't turn the other cheek on evil such as 911. They knew exactly what they were doing and that scripture verse you are using is out of context. Jesus was referring to those who killed Him not terrorist who blow up a building. The Christian response to 911 is to not hate the terrorists but leave them to God.

We do forgive, absolutely. But evil must be stopped. Responsible people do what they can to stop it.
