How has Christianity, a faith based on the teaching of one text (Bible), divided into so many denominations?

you have to admit that it is a very large "text" and as people become religious, they seem to lose track of what God wanted and start putting their thoughts and priorities into their denomination, went some one disagreed with them they would start their own church and then as follower began to increase it would become a denomination. and then history would repeat itself.

If we look as the Bible as one text than we have already begun our answer with a problem. The Bible in reality is a collection of collection's. Each book was written by a man to serve a prupose, either religous or political sometimes both. The way i find i can read the bible with all its historical inacuracies and contradictions, is to think "if i was hearing the word of God would i be able to write it down, or because i am not God would i meerly interpret it so that i CAN write it down" the bible at its essence is a book of the word of the Lord, written down by Men. The reasons their are differnt denominations in Christianity is because the book we all rely on for faith was written by men with all their faults and plans.
That does not mean that we should not believe the Bible, rather we should read it while keeping that in mind.
Denominations are based on how men read differntly the bible.
Now their is an ever growing call to shrug off Denominations, to become just Christian. We may feel differntly about sacraments, and worship, but we all belive that Christ died for us because he loves us.

There are so many denominations because Christians do not all agree on the interpretation of the Bible. If you've ever read it, you can see how this can be so. Plus, there are sects that have other 'holy' books that they include with the Bible which can cause more rifts and so on and so forth.

They all interpret the text differently. How could people agree on something for two thousand years anyway?

originally it was just the Roman catholic church as has survived for about 2000 years now, The Roman catholic church is ONE, because is has an AUTHORITY, this is what other protestant denominations are missing, a central authority, therefore they can't agree on their teachings>
