God is the creator of everything, the universe and everything in it. Can any man claim to be able to create all this, to set the planets in motion so perfectly as to have the elements and seasons and processes make the perfect combination for life? Can anyone create life? Can we be everywhere at once or have no beginning or no end? Yes he deserves our utmost respect and the only reason you would have to fear Him is if you are not right with Him. All you have to do is ask Jesus to save you to be right with Him. Then there's nothing but love from Him and no need to fear any more. God bless you.

I can see that you have received answers from people who don't believe that God even exists. They are not answering your question. A person who is a sinner and does not have Jesus in their life, will face God one day as their judge. Unless you are as perfect as God you will be sent to hell. I find even writing this difficult because it is a terrible thing to happen. However, with Jesus, your sins are forgiven and you have fellowship with God and need not fear your Heavenly Father. Please consider what I have told you. You will not regret walking with Jesus through this life and into the next.To stand before a Holy God as a sinner is beyond terror.

The only reason to respect a non-existent Supreme Father Figure in the sky is because it is bad to insult the beliefs of others.

I think that every human who has not repented of their sins and accepted Jesus as their Savior should be afraid of God.

Romans 2:3 Do you suppose, O man--you who judge those who do such things and yet do them yourself--that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? 5 But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.

Ephesians 2:1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience-- 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ--by grace you have been saved-- 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

No, I think he's a good God so we shouldn't be afraid. We should be afraid of our own actions and the consequences for those actions.

Think of it as a healthy respect for the creator of the universe and everything in it.

no.

if god is any sort of decent being, she/he is above the pettiness some of his followers insist upon.

if one attributes any parental impulse upon such a god, as yourself this: What does any decent parent want of their children? Eternal servitude? or... to grow up and be decent people without needing parental oversight?

It's time to grow up as a species, people.

Yes. At first fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom then later the fear is turned into love and then you fear hurting him.
