You have to sign up by law. Get the pamphlet from the post office, it will probably go into detail about what happens if you don't.

Are you scared of the draft which won't happen?
Is the possibility of screwing yourself for the rest of your life - before you even had a chance to begin it - really worth about 3 minutes of your time to fill out a card and mail it in?
Are you gullible enough to believe all of the BS that is being spread about a draft?
If you are hoping to just work at McDonalds and never go to college, or vote, or maybe apply for a job with the government or a contractor sure, don't register. You may regret not doing it later, or you may never get caught. Is it worth it?
Since I did register when I was 18 and have already done 11 years on active duty (I only learned how to be a murderer and a killer by the way), I do not have to worry about it anymore. I could get recalled to service, but hey, I'll go!
Do the right thing. Stop listening to the propoganda machine of the ignorant out there. There isn't going to be a draft.
You may find yourself signing up after finding out that you want to try something other than civilian life....you never know.
Good Luck!

Yes, all males have to sign up for the selective service or you can be fined and/or imprisoned. You should've received the card in the mail, it should explain to you how much you get fined. Don't worry, since you are not in the army, if there was a draft you would be one of the last to be picked. Just do it to stay out of trouble with the government.

All males must register with the selective service by their 18th birthday. If you do not you will not be eleigble for any government benefits such as student grants or loans. Also if there is a draft you could be subject to jail time.

I think some job applications want to know your selective service number (gov't employees).
I also think you can register as a conscientious objector. Hopefully some guy knows more about this than I do.
All I know is, because I have a name that can go either way, I got selective service forms mailed to me for years--then they either found out I was a girl, or gave up.

You should sign up the the selective service. It is your responsibility as a US Citizen to do so. Also you will not be able to take advantage of ANY federal money for college or higher education if you don't do it.
Go here for more information:http://www.sss.gov/
What is the penalty for not registering?
If you do not register, you could be prosecuted and fined up to $250,000 and/or be put in jail for up to five years. Registration is also a requirement to qualify for Federal student aid, job training benefits, and most Federal employment.
(See also What Happens if I Don't Register?).

Yea you better register, if you do not you will not be eligible for any government benifits, like social security, medicare, or welfare.
Not to mention you will spend some time in Jail.
Why dont you people understand the importance of our draft system, you have to be ready for war it can happen at anytime, history is full of countries who were unprepared for war, one pretty good example is France 1940.

Like everyone else said...it's the law. My husband was automatically signed up for it when he registered to vote on his 18th birthday. I know some people said you go to the post office but you can also get it done at the library (at least if you're registering to vote at the same time)

You have to sign up, it's the law.
If you don't, anytime during you life, if they find out, they will put you in jail for about 5 years.
Don't mess up, just sign up. Hopefully there won't be a draft, but if there is, you can always run away then if you choose.
But if you don't sign up, then you have to worry about it for the rest of your life.
I was sure glad after I was over 25 and done with it.

It's not a question as to "if" you should sign up. You have to sign up. It's the law of the land.
And to WATCHOVERMANKIND----You are a fool and a moron. You're saying that our military are murderers??? Your have very freedom because brave Americans fight to protect and preserve it. You call them murderers, but you should get on your knees and kiss the ground they walk on. If you are an American, you should get out, or learn what sacrifices they have made to keep YOU safe and free. Now go in the corner and have a cookie you communist fairy!
