Well since your using it for skateboarding, probably miniDV will be your best bet, since I doubt you'll be just shooting and watching without editing. As for the best camera under $600, there really isn't just one. For skateboarding you're probably going to be looking for fast shutter speeds for action. Most sub-$600 cams can go up to at least 1/500 with some up to 1/2000 or 1/5000 or even higher, but one option they don't have is overcranking, where frame rates can be increased or decreased. Most $600 cams shoot only 60i, and I think a few have a "movie mode" where it shoots around 30p to try to create that "film look." (keyword: try). So it doesn't really matter a lot as to what camera you choose, since you will probably be using a lot of auto controls during the shoot. If I were you, I'd get something with 3ccds, some manual controls, and maybe a still option as well. A pv-gs300 is a good choice, but other cams could be just as good. Hope this helps!

The Sony Alpha 2 hundred gained Tipa award 2008 for newbie SLR digicam. may well be one to look at. something on your budget from Nikon and Canon might additionally do the job. Dont ignore the Pentax selection the two. The K200D makes a sturdy starter digicam. i've got seen a super style of imagery and movies of severe activities that use very very nearly around 'fish eye' lenses. that would desire to be an further purchase if thats the form you have been hoping for.
