Old Stuffed animals if you have any are perfect toys for puppies, and since pugs are small, it will be good as an adult too. Also you might want to get him a bone, Rawhide prefrabily. The bone will help with the teething. If you don't have a cage yet you might want to get one cause you don't want a puppy running around your house or room destroying everything! Cage training your dog is also a good thing to do if you are going to be away for long periods of time. I think a cute name would be pugsly. Also, Nutro Max has good treats for all dogs including puppies. hope this helped!

Definitly something to chew on. Preferably NOT rawhide, once a dog gets it down to small size they will try to swallow the remaining piece which will be too big. Many dogs choke to death because of this. Most good pet stores sell cow and/or pig hooves. These are ideal for teething (just be careful not to step on it in bare feet it hurts!).
Other good toy are squeeky toys that aren't loud, A real loud one, at that age, can scare him.
Socks, old shoes, stuffed animals are not a great idea because the pup will not know the difference between the old ones he can chew up and the new ones. Dogs just do not have that intellectual capacity.
If the pup is going to be alone while you are at school you might consider playing a radio softly, it will help keep him from getting too lonely. Also if you have an old t-shirt you don't mind giving up, wear it for several hours and leave that down for him to sleep on/with. It will have your scent and that too will comfort him. Crate training is a good idea but many pups are reared the old fashioned way.
Just one more bit of advise, though you didn't ask. Puppies naturally chew on things including electric cords. You might want to buy some Bitter Apple (the one for horses works best I've found). Apply to electrical cords and anything you see the pup chewing that it shouldn't like furniture. This is what I use for all my cats, dogs, and horses and it works.
Enjoy your pug. I remember when I got my first one. It was one of the best days of my life.

We have a 4 month old pug, he is so so cute! I love him to death and think he is human sometimes! All I can say is you are in for some fun! They CAN be difficult to train though at times. Ours is litter box trained. And although he learned to use the box in about 6 weeks, sometimes he will go potty right in front of us which is not cool at all, of course! We just found out after having him for 2 months that MOSTLY all pugs are allergic to corn products. So do not feed your puppy Purina Puppy Chow, it'll make him itch like crazy! We thought ours had fleas but it turned out to be food allergies, so we have to slowly mix in different food to change out from Purina to something else. Pugs like ALL toys and all treats. You'll definitely want to get him some of the pig ear twisted sticks so he can chew on those, instead of chewing on other things in the house. I would get a good carpet cleaning product also, just in case he has any accidents.. Any name would work...Otis,Odie,Oscar,ETC...ours is named Seymour. You could be funny and give him a celebrity name like Jim Carey or Steve Buscimi

Food: Something fairly healthy, not purina etc. The cheaper foods are very unhealthy. Try Nutro brand.
Treats: Puppy biscuts and pupparoni, not too many because Pugs tend to get chunky.
Toy: The treat balls you can purchase at Petco or Petsmart are the best. Put treats like pieces of Pupparoni inside and they will play with it for hours.
Congratulations!!

If you are buying toys to keep him entertained while you are not with him, pick out something that is hard rubber that he is not going to be able to chew pieces off and swallow while you are not there. Never give rawhides, stuffed animals, or anything that can be broken apart while you aren't there to watch him. My dog has a few Kong, Nylabone and Orca (I believe that's the name) toys you can stuff with treats or freeze with peanut butter or cheese in them (special formulated "dog" cheese and PB, heh), and keep them entertained for a while, and provides a mental aspect of "how to get the treats out". As far as treats, Iams, Science Diet and Eukanuba have great quality foods that are carried nation wide, for all ages.

if it is a hyper dog then it will probably want something it can chew on for a long time and something that moves around when it touches itmabey like a strong and rubber ball
if it is a relaxed dog it will most likley want a hard toy like a flavored bone. also the bigger the dog most likley the bigger toy it is going to want big dogs get irritated with small toys. same with treats a stronger dog is going to want something it has to crunch but for smaller dogs something softer...i actualy prefer begging stripes, most dogs like them and its good for them.-Have fun with your new dog!
