I've recently read that the Netherlands are on their way to legalize Euthanasia for the severely Depressed and Lonely (ex. men and women who cant get girlfriends/boyfriends, involuntary celibates, permanent virgins, senescent folks). The requirement will be proof of the intolerability of the patients life and that the patient has no chance of bettering by way of psychological examination.

This is great news and hope for people like myself who, as a 23 year old American male virgin at an intolerable 5'5" (which will NOT get better), would like nothing more than to go to my local Dr., and obtain a prescription for a drug that will finally put me to a peaceful death.

I know that there are a lot of critics of Euthanasia - I've heard all their vacuous arguments. A person's life belongs only to that particular person - he/she should have the right to relinquish it.

Euthanasia of this kind will no doubt be available to the American public in the future. What are your thoughts?

I can kind of understand those who are dying anyway of cancer or whatever, but I can't say that I would do it myself. I think that should be in the hands of God personally. HOWEVER, for the other reasons you mentioned, no, I think it's just cowardice.

Besides, give me a break. My best friend was 5'4" inches tall and a virgin until he was 26. He's now happily married. You just need to get a life and quit feeling sorry for yourself.

The Netherlands has always lead the road to assisted death. Personally and from personal experience I can say that I would never agree to an assisted death. I am a cancer survivor. I am also a registered nurse and know that there is a way to keep those who are suffering in a state of comfort when dying from a terminal illness. I also had a different critical illness recently and had a near death experience. I can without a doubt tell you that there is a place called heaven. I am not ready to go there and was told it is not my time, so after three months on a vent and a year later here I am. It has taken a lot of hard work and I am NOT ON any antidepressants. Any doctor who would write a script for meds to kill your self would be committing murder. Doctors are there to help not kill you.
I am on the petite side too, and would have dated someone who was short in stature such as yourself. You may not qualify to be a little person but you are close, but that is no reason to say your height is intolerable.
. We should not judge people from their physical characteristics. It is what is on the inside that counts.
Your letter suggests that you are suffering from depression. You should seek immediate medical help. Find a support group where you can meet others who can help you. Churches are a great place to start, the ministers are also adept at counsel ling, and are not judge mental.

There are a lot of successful short men, so your height has nothing to do with it.

Twenty three is still quite young, and if you haven't met the right gal, then being a virgin is no big deal. My husband was older than you before he lost his virginity, and it was actually a good thing.

I think you need psychological help, possibly medication, and maybe even some electroconvulsive therapy (yeah, we still do that!).

Euthanasia will never be available in America, and you're an excellent example of why it shouldn't be. Heck, look at all the people who wouldn't let poor Terry Schaivo die!

Get help.

Whoa! I certainly hope you misread something because that is REALLY bad. Just because someone doesn't have a gf or bf or are celibate or virgins does not make them 'damaged'. That is just plain insane if what you say is true.

The people who feel they want to die because of this need some very serious counseling to understand that just because they don't fit into societies neat little pigeon hole of what we 'should be' does not mean they need to be done away with. This is just sick, really and truly, sick.

Virgins and celebates should be celebrated. People who are smart enough to understand that they are somebody without somebody should be celebrated. The truth is, those that are sexually active are unhappy because they are sleeping around and those in relationships aren't too far behind them in the unhappiness category too. Many are needy and can't live without someone, now that is dysfunctional!

I am a Christian, so my thoughts are not along the same lines as yours, I noticed you don't believe in afterlife. Sad. If you believed what God has to offer, you would feel much differently about life. Maybe you should consider that.

I don't know who wrote what you are saying, but they are WAY OFF the mark. Maybe THEY should be euthanized! : )

I don't think euthanasia for the depressed is the correct way to go about solving this issue. clearly people who are not seeing things objectively shouldn't have the choice to end their life..
Consider all those people who felt depressed and suicidal at one time in their life but saw the light at the end of the tunnel.
I think that law should be reviewed again before being legalized in the Netherlands.
As for America I highly doubt it ..

I am pro euthanasia for terminally ill patients who are near death and have no quality of life. I am very much against euthanasia for any other person. Depression and loneliness are NOT reasons for ending ones life -- by any means. I am sure You have some good memories already in your life, and will do well in the future. Talk with a psychologist.

P.S. I have dated many men who are not quite as tall as you.

No offense but there are medications as well as counselling to help the severely depressed. I understand it isn't an easy life to live, but with a little effort someone could easily lose their virginity, rather than contemplate suicide because they can't get laid. It's a weak and pathetic option. Assisted suicide should be proivded for the deathly ill, who have no chance for physical wellness. Depression is fixable.

Generally, i do agree with euthanasia, BUT just for those who dont have any chance for "proper" life. For those, who suffer from unbereable pain, who are paralysed and cant move at all, which means they need help with EVERY SINGLE thing they do and so. These people "deserve" to die in dignity. People, who are lonely, dont have to be lonely all their life. there are many oportunies to meet someone. and come on, even if u r not to tall,it doesnt mean, u cant get lovely girl. as someone sad before, stop feeling sorry for urself and get a life. there are people with much worse problems, than hight.

euthanasia is not the way to perhaps in extreme cases. if u watch your life long partner suffering extreme and mental and physical pain and no hope for survival, and u assist them in suicide in north America it is against the law, and u could go to jail. i do not believe it is for people who are depressed and cant get partners. u seem to be obsessed with having a partner and your height. things can get better for you. every year there is better treatment for all kinds of problems. please hang in because life at your age can get better. don't give up yet. your life does not just belong to you. it also belongs to your family and loved ones. being a virgin, at age 23, is only one small part of your life. please see a psychiatrist if u have not done so allready, u are not alone with these problems, and i hope things can get better for you. good luck p s there is nothing wrong with being a virgin, its just not your time yet.

I think that you should be thankful that God choose you to be on earth instead of someone else. So taking away that gift makes him think you do not appreciate what he gave you. I bet there is always someone out there worse then you. Just because you don't like some things in life does not mean you should take it all away. 5'5 I bet them little people out there are just happy that people accept them.
