As it is the white version (yes, they also make a red version) the only way to really tell is open it and smell the cork and the wine. White generally age far less well then reds as I imagine you are aware. If the wine smells acidic...toss it and buy a new bottle.

1996 is very old for inexpensive white wines that don't have the structure to last many years, they're made to drink young. For this reason, even if stored properly the taste and body will fad and you'll be left with a bland wine. Go ahead and open it up but pour the wine, not smell the cork. If the wine has a deep yellow color and an off odor, it has gone bad. If it still tastes relatively spry and young and fruity--pour the wine and drink with pleasure.

You won't know until you open it an try it. Some wines can turn into vinegar if they are not stored properly. Most inexpensive wines are meant to be consumed within 6 month from date of purchase.

Probably not. White wines do not last that long and this one is going on 11 years. Open it up and cook with it.

depends on how it has been stored. and, generally white wine won't last as long as red. all though there are exceptions. so, chill it and drink it. if it's bad, then you'll have learned something.
