It beats slower on a regular night. It beats the same when I wake up suddenly, for example when someone yells my name and my eyes snap open. It beats fast when I wake up from a nightmare or scary dream.

Well, if you wake up under normal conditions (no nightmares, or haven taken medications or alcohol) it should be slower or about average. Your body's functions tend to slow down when you are sleeping.

Heart slows down when sleeping as the body goes into the "healing mode" so it speeds up when you wake up.
