My cat has a tick and it's imbedded into his skin. I touched it many times just petting him before I realized it was there. I washed my hands right after i realized he had one. If the tick is carrying the disease can I be infected just from coming in contact with the butt of the tick? and is it curable?? Also do ticks really carry rabies? Thanks!

I think that they only way to get Lymes disease ti to get bitten by the tick. Yes it is curable, my mom had it and the tick was embedded in her skin. I have never heard of ticks carrying rabies. Not all ticks carry Lyme disease, just deer ticks.

I had lyme deasese around 10 years ago after being bitten by a deer tick I was in a wooded area at the time. I was treated at a local hospital and Im fine, have absolutly no signs of the disease. I beleive I was told that the only way you can get infected is by being bitten by ticks carried by animals found in a wooded or high grassed areas. As for the rabbies answer Im sorry I don't know.

Not all ticks carry Lyme disease. It is only the deer tick that carries the disease, and they are very very small. About the size of a pin head or smaller.

And you cannot get the disease unless the tick embeds itself in you.
