Ok to sum it up I have this total body itch from head to toe and have had it for 3 months, been to derm, allergist, and reg doc and no one has an answer my allergy test shows dust mites do I have dust mited my home, change to clear laundry soap, change to regular dial soap, medicated shampoo but nothing has worked. If I take Zyrtec or Atarax it will help with the itching but has now caused muscle ache so switched over to Clarinex but I can't seem to find the reason for the itch. All my blood work comes back fine only one out of range was the Immuneoglobin IG which was high stating that I was allergic to something, but no one has the answers. Could it be caffeine, or something else I'm consuming?? I'm just lost as to why this won't go away and no one has an answer for me.. Someone suggested to see a infectious disease doctor but I'm not sure seeing another doctor is going to help me.
As long as I have a antihistamine in me I'm not itching any help would be greatly appreciated..

It has to be something in your environment or that you're ingesting which is causing this dilemma. I'm allergic to Ampicillin, and I had to find that out the hard way when I had pneumonia once. I couldn't breathe worth a crap, and I was itching like crazy with the hives.

It could be the soap you're using, something you're washing your clothes with, or your skin could simply be very dry. It has to be something you're in contact with most every day which is causing your condition.

Last ditch effort, switch all of the products you use for bathing and washing your clothes to start with, and pay close attention to what you're eating for a while noting when you're itching and what might have brought it about.

Good Luck...hope you get over it!

I think "somewhere" is onto something. Many food allergies are manifested in the skin. I suggest keeping a food diary, and simplify. The least allergenic foods are rice and lamb. Start with those and canned pears and peaches (also low on the allergy scale).

I found I was allergic to some of the additives to beef and to cantaloupe.

Try rinsing clothing and bedding twice, and totally avoid those fabric softener sheets, they leave spiky fibers that can really irritate the skin. For that matter, avoid fabric softeners all together. Avoid fragrances and deodorants.

Hope something suggested helps you, I know how miserable this can be.

I have been sufferring from this for over twenty years, I'm allergic to an enzyme that is produced in my liver when I digest solid food (especially beef and pork), caffeine aggrevates the problem. I take 2 benadryl 3 times a day. I'm left with the choice of sleep or itch, if I have something I absolutely have to do, I skip the Benadryl and suck it up, and try not to scratch the emabarrassing areas in public

You may have to start the process of elimination with the foods you eat... it could possibly be an allergy to a common food additive, pesticide, or food component like wheat (celiac disease).
although allergies to these items usually cause GI distress, and not itching, every body reacts differently.
also, have you had your liver enzymes measured?
Does the itching occur in every environment? For instance, is it worst at home, or does it subside when you are in public places like the mall? Situational allergies, such as those that primarily occur at home could be a sign of a mold or fungus in the walls of your home...
I'm not an allergist, but I would suggest switching up you Dr.s. Anihistamines are treating your symptoms, but without a proper dx this will go on for years.

You probably have chronic urticaria, which is a fancy way to say chronic hives. The symptoms are better when you take antihistamines. In most cases of chronic urticaria, the cause is unknown. I have it, and I take Allegra everyday - it helps a LOT. Either ask another doctor about it or look it up on the internet.

Do you take long hot showers or baths? If so, you could be drying out your skin. It is called winter itch. Try taking a quick shower and put vaseline on most of your body as soon as you get out.
