The guy that lives behind me is a hunter and he ALWAYS throws dead fish and unwanted deer parts over the fence. I have two dogs and as soon as they find the animal remains, they go and- not eat it- ROLL in it! Then they come inside and rub the smell on the furiture and you can't breath if you're in the same room with them. I'm afraid to confront the problem to my neighbor himself be cause I don't live in a good neighborhood and who knows what the guy would do if I offended him.
How do I keep the dogs out of the animal remains? Please help!

You guys who told me to build a fence,
I DO have a fence, notice I said he throws the remains OVER the fence, my family can't spend money on an electric fence, and we ARE going to move but not for a few months and I can't stand to be around my puppies with that smell. I WOULD go and confront the guy but it's really my mom that said she'd be freaked out if we did that, so anything else to keep the puppies AWAY from it?

okay, and i can't call the cops because;
1. The cops where I live don't care a flip about anything, they don't work
2. Some of the cops in my city are hoodlums and drugatics themselves, they might do worse to the situation
3. My dad isn't as concerned as me my sister and mom are, he wouldn't go so far as to call the cops no matter how good a police department we had.
I was hoping for some ideas to try on my DOGS, not the neighbors, not the cops.
But I like the ideas about the health department, ill mention it to my parents. But we might just have to stick it out with baths until we move. :\

lol, Gross! Actually if you find a way to stop any dog from rolling in something dead bottle it and you will be a millionaire.
Your situation with the neighbor sucks! I would send him a nice note explaining the situation and ask if there was anyway he could dispose of the remains differently. Offer him a trash can or trash bags. Not that you should have to but in this particular situation it may help you. You get more flies with sugar than vinegar.
Another option is to call animal control or better yet the health department.
Also you could fence off the area so your dogs can not get to the remains.
Good luck!

U can ask ur neighbor politely not to throw stuff over the fence. Or u could find a way to block the area from them. They like the smell. That's what I had to do with my short haired collie but not only would she roll in any animal remains (skunks, raccoons, squirrels, deer) but her own poop & my other dogs poop as well!! We finally had to use one part of our back yard for the poop area only!! Even then we would have to keep an eye on her!! My father & brother's used to hunt alot!!

If he is throwing them into an alley way, complain to the city health department. All you have to tell them is that there are animal remains and horrible smells behind his address. Get some other neighbors, or even friends, to call about it as well. Don't say anything about the dogs.

The rolling behavior is natural and I don't know that you can change it. You could try checking the yard for offal before you let the dogs out.

The real problem is your neighbor. Is he doing this because you've had a confrontation or because he's an ignorant hillbilly and doesn't know any better? If you haven't had any bad interaction you could try to approach him and explain the problem you are having and ask him to dispose of the stuff in the trash...
Best of luck.

If you don't want them to get in it then I must agree with everyone else.... Build a fence. And if you won't say anything to them. Then try calling the local police to see what you can do about the situation. I'm sure he's not supposed to be throwing the remains into your yard.

Move, or put up an electric fence up so the dogs can't go near where he throws the remains.

This is unsanitary conditions for your dogs. Who cares if you offend him...just politely ask him to stop and explain why..he might be very understanding of your concerns. This is not good for your dogs...they can eat some of the rotten meat, get worms, bacteria will cause illness and imagine the smell when one of your dogs vomits in the room....eeewwwwww.

You need to go over to your neighbours and ask him to not throw stuff over the fence. If one of you dogs get sick from it, it will be very big vet bill and your neighbour might not pay it.

Complain to the health department. That's just plain wrong.
