Should help a lot. However, it would improve significantly if you can just up that to 10 more minutes. Basically anything you do that makes you sweat, add 20 mins to that and you are doing great.
Running (and any other cardio workout) is the best as it is not only a very productive means of increasing weightloss, but it increases your endurance so you can push harder as you grow stronger.
That is why excercises such as running and the excercise bike are still going strong all these decades later...outliving various excercise and diet fads.
******Speaking of bikes, that is probably your best bet, as is walking fast....as they are less damaging to your joints. I'd say do a brisk walk for 30-40 mins every other day, and fill in those middle days with an hour long bike ride...lots of nice bike trails out there or find an area with a lot of hills if you live in urban area with no parks.******
As for eating moderately, take it one step forward and balance out your diet. Make sure you are getting all your food groups and just lay off the junk. Take special note of portion sizes yes, but also the quality of the food you are eating.
Good luck and enjoy the benifits of your hard work. It may take awhile for you to notice by appearance, so keep a weekly chart with weights so you can see your great progress.
Take care and stay safe.

It depends. When I first started running long distance, I was new to running and hadn't exercised in a while, and I lost a lot of weight. But you should be careful to start off slow, since your body is not used to it (unless you regularly play a demanding sport like football (soccer), ice hockey or do a lot of swimming) since it can cause lots of problems. Also make sure you have shoes for your foot type - normal, over pronator, or under pronator (you can find a lot on this on the internet and in running magazines) - to lessen your chances of getting shin splints and stress fractures.
Try 20 minutes a day 3 to 4 days a week, and if this is too hard or hurts, change to running and walking, say running for 2 minutes walking for 3 minutes, repeat 5 times, and gradually increase the running time and decrease the walking time until you can run for 20 to 30 minutes without a problem. Good Luck! :)

Sorry but you don't sound energetic enough to get started !
Don't waste your time on this, better to start walking and moderate your diet intake to equal your output, simple as that. Most people in good health can walk 3-5 mpm, you should be able to walk 1(one) mile in less than 8-10 minutes, but best if you can walk 2 miles in 16-20 minutes. Ounce you have done that, its not the distance but the time that gives you the gain on the weight lost your seeking. I've heard it called cardio-exercise, or whatever ! Try it, put on the head gear and turn on the tunes and get started, if you listen to some favorite music you'll be finish before the tape is. I used to listen to talk radio and fully enjoyed my long walks of 3-5 miles within an adverage of 12 minutes per mile, about an hour(9 mins a mile when I did the 3 miles). The walking is better, lets you think or even day dream as your walking, less damage to the body, like knees and ankles and so forth.
You have the time to smile at the runners, some several times in some cases. If you do it same time every time you might find others doing it and next thing you know your in a group, aways a chance for a cup of coffee afterwards.
I retired from the military as enlisted after 20+yrs, I did alot of running, some of it was forced running for training. Never bothered me but I paid a heavy price for it all. I'll be 57yrs next month and it started to get cold and I can feel all that cold now a days. Arthritis of this and that, I wake up nights with knee discomfort. A few years ago I started to notice those extra pounds. I decided to exercise and did some reading and came out with the idea for me was to get into a walking program. It worked for, in 9 months I lost 30 pounds, that about 3 lbs per month. It was a good healthy weight lost and looked more natural, no pain either during this time frame.
Short story: Almost at the time I was to retire at 40 years old, I hated the running. I had to keep in shape the US Army required it. I had to maintain 2 miles in less that 22mins and 45 seconds. Heck, I decided that i could train myself to walk that fast. I had a large American Boxer bull dog full of pep and spirits, so I got up at 4:30am everyday just about and walked the dog for 2 miles and the walks gained me about 20-23 minutes. She loved the cool brisk walks and I also got the exercise. When it came to testing time, twice a year, I always pasted.I would walk most of the way and then at the end gave a charge going in, just for show. This worked for me, I retired as a Master Sergent/E-8 at 41y/o.
Start slow and enjoy yourself, heck get your lady friend or wife to tag along, you might be surprised what your conversations might be. If you don't like the topic of the conversation just walk a bit faster and tire her out ! hahhaha worked for me !
Good luck and take care !

It really depends on the portions of food you eat like for example you could eat a whole lot of carrots, squash, mashed potatoes, and green beans but if you don't eat an actual planned portion your effort to lose weight is in vain. I suggest weightwatchers because it only costs 10-12 dollars a week. They're very helpful and you're surrounded by people who want to lose weight too!! So my advice to you is to join weight watchers they have their own foods like choclate cakes, carrot cakes, chocolate and blueberry muffins and more delicious stuff.

YEs i have to agree with the first answer, but to add to it, running Will help loose fat, BUT you have to remember that if you start to run, do it slowly and you may not right away loose the lbs, because as you loose the fat you will also build muscle. and as the saying goes muscle weighs more than fat.... so for a while the pounds will come hard...

Increase to 30 minutes (outside, not on a treadmill) and you will see the pounds shed.
