I lost my "child" two days ago. She wasn't sick or showing any signs of being sick. She was having a hard time breathing and I took her to the er vet. They said she had an air pocket between her chest and heart which was causing it hard for her to get air in. They did a chest tap on her to get the air out but two hours later she stopped breathing on her own. I was completly hysterical and don't remember what they called this of what causes this. Any thoughts???

Pneumothorax - literally "air in the chest cavity". It can be caused by trauma to the chest - such as being hit by a car; the lung is punctured and air moves into the "thoracic cavity". But in your case it sounds like it was probably genetic.

I would need to know more, but I would guess that it was inevitable, and was caused by a genetic defect. I'm really sorry for your loss. But know that you couldn't have done anything.

the name of the problem was likely Pneumopericardium associated with pulmonary-pericardial communication. This is what it is called with humans, as well..

when air accumulates and puts too much pressure on the heart, so it can't beat properly..sometimes there is blood as well as air.

as note concerning the answer above mine..the difference is..Pneumothorax is a condition in which air or some other gas collects in the chest or the pleural space. The pleural space is the space that surrounds the lungs. When a gas collects in the pleural space, it can cause part or all of a lung to collapse. For that reason, pneumothorax is also called collapsed lung.
